Neighborhoody!

5 years and uncountable visits later, I can honestly begin my comparative Irish House reviews, beginning with the original at Phoenix, of course.

They started off as your neighborhood bar. They probably still serve to that distinction. But Irish House is synonymous with what Happy hours are to the regular folk of Bombay. This outlet is without a doubt the best among the lot until now. Everything about it is grand. The location atop the courtyard of Phoenix. The service. The music. The pub grub. And of course, their happy hour prices. They can sure make the most alcoholic of them cocktails and the best part is the happy hours are on for the entire bar menu. After that, the prices are high, which may put a dent in your wallet. But the place is always crowded and despite that, you are served very well. The music is certainly some of the best pub music I have heard in the city and that's the case all day, everyday. Loaded Nachos are my staple grub and LITs are my staple happy hour product. And they are pretty darn good!

Hello Neehar, we are thrilled to know that you have such a wonderful history with The Irish House. It's great that you particularly like our Lower Parel outlet and enjoy the service, music, Happy Hours, drinks and food, especially our signature Grande Nachos. Our guests having a good time is just what we aim for. Keep coming and we'll do our best to make sure that the Irish fun never ends. Cheers!

Nice place to watch Football

Its a lovely place to go and watch matches. Especially football. If you are a premier League fan then do catch your favourite team in action. Go and cheer for them with the best Irish Beer in town. Please do go during the happy hours.

Make sure you take your Id as they are very strict about the age.

Best weekend hangout place

A great place to hang out comfortably on the weekend with friends, good music and drinks. We had the nachos platter which was good but what was unforgetteble was the drinks and that to during the happy hours. Great range of music, though there's a lot of 80s stuff which is really nice. Music after 11pm was killer and we danced even when seated. Enjoyed the atmosphere and the overall décor.

The Irish House - A chic place

The Irish House is a chic place for an evening with friends. Classy and cool, the ambiance is something you enjoy as well the music. We tried the nachos and the house sangria which I must say was good. The finger food is great, though a little on the expensive side. If you are planning to get high, take a wad of cash along !

chill out zone

this is one of the classic pub and bar places in Mumbai, very famous for the very same reason, very often they have sports events being played out on big screens so you see the ambiance is all friendly, sporty, drinking and fun. If you like such ambiance, you will love it here. Not much to say about food. Tried pasta, nachos and burgers and all were good.

Horrible customer service

Today has got to be the worst experience ever. I would advice people to beware of the current manager Mr. Sage Sarang. Today I went at 6:30 pm with a friend. On ordering our drinks we were told that at 6:30 pm the bar was out of Redbull. We requested them to figure out if there was something they could do and even offered to get our own redbull since they were out of a very BASIC mixer very very early on in the evening. Then arrives Mr. Sage who from the very start very rudely tells us that nothing is possible and that we can have whatever else we went. A slight argument pursued ( without any raised voices from our side) after which my friend decided to order something else and told Mr. Sage " ok you you can go" . The reaction to this was shocking. Mr. Sage told the server not to serve at our table anymore and asked us to leave and walked off.
He would not let us finish a single sentence and when we approached him mentioning that this is not how customers are spoken to he gave us a lecture on the difference between CUSTOMER SERVICE and SLAVERY. I am still not sure what he meant by that and I was not aware that asking for privacy at our own table entailed slavery.
He claimed to be the manager but could not MANAGE simple customer requests and complaints . That is pure incompetancy. To cover that incompetancy with unnecessary attitude is something I have never experienced.
Irish pub is where we frequently have office parties and client meetings but I am surely going to narrate the same to all my colleagues , clients and friends and would warn all future customers that incase of any issues at Irish pub DO NOT call the MANAGER Mr. Sage Sarang as he will simply as you to leave.
This has got to be the lowest level of customer service ever.

The Irish House & my recent visits

I am quite a regular at this place…erm by that I mean I visit them once in a few weeks to a month. Well, considering the number of pubs that have mushroomed around the city, I think revisiting a place more than 4 times in a year as being quite a regular there :) So, the first and the biggest strength of this place is its music and its very hospitable staff. The music is very Classic rock and intermittent RNB numbers, quite a nice ambiance for a pub. Everytime I have been here, I have come across warm and pleasant staff always ready to help. I frequent both the Lower Parel and the Kurla Marketcity locations.

The drinks, especially the cocktails are very good. Also they have a good range in the beer section. The food menu quite nicely compliments the place. Most of everything that I have ever tried here has been prepared nicely according to me.

Well from my last visit, we had their draught beer , and quite a lot of it at that. Along with a Basket of Chicken Popcorn to begin with. For the mains we ordered Original Italian Spaghetti with Prawns, and The Great Irish Fish & Chips. The dips that came along with all the fried food were quite nice. By the time they cleared our table, we were content as we had eaten and drank heartily to the lovely music and time that we had spent.

My personal favorite in this place, and I recommend this to everyone is Grande Nachos in Non Vegetarian, although even the vegetarian dish is very good. It is a huge dish good for 3-4 people, it serves as a very good finger food with some chilled beer.

Always Reliable

At the cost of sounding pompous I feel my review title is as Spot On...as Spot On gets.

The music is always good, starts with rock, ends with popular club tracks.

The food is average, They try and experiment with the menu, but the vegetarians end up having the Nachos everytime.

The Service is always good, the waiters are cheery and are willing to talk to you if you are the rare indian who wants to talk them.

They have the same Ireland inspired (with liberty offcourse) decor in all their locations which quite frankly is a centuries old tested design.

Nothing is cheap in regular hours but not that expensive either...BUT BUT BUT..

We come the other time of the day (or day)....The appropriately named Happy Hours...

With a buy 1 get 1 offer on almost the entire spirit menu and that extra 30 mins (5 to 830) or happy hours the entire tuesday (as of jan 2014)...

You can be assured of a very happy time with packed crowd of office goers and yuppies.

The crowd tends to wane gradually after 830 but your assured of a rightly crowded place any day of the week.

Combine the Happiness and reliability of everything else including a good predictable crowd even on weekdays...

And you have a very good watering hole which is worth repeating...

We paid approx 2200 for a pitcher and 2 starters between 2.

Irish way

If you're going along with some elite friends then definitely this is the place to visit.
A bit costly but worth every penny.

Taste of each and every dish is marvelous.
Interiors are very gracefully done and one will like this place if bored from visiting Indian restaurants.

People who consume liquor should keep their wallets open as they charge hefty for it.
pasta and fries recommended

Worth Visiting

. It has the look and feel of a typical pub with a bar-area, screens and tables with high seating.
It was the first day of the IPL and the place was full. The waiters were friendly but service was a bit slow due to the crowd. We had beer barrels, whiskeys and a few cocktails and moctails on our table. The kaafir lime martini wasn't available but the passion fruit and coffee one was decent.
Thr grande nachos , ultimate cheese combo , bbq chicken wings and chermoula prawns were all yummy. The hunters penne was nice and creamy. We ended with jaggerbomb shots and needless to say ran up a huge bill.
Would definately like to visit it again.

Very international- price wise too!

So it was a friend's birthday and he invited a chain of people- friends and friends of friends. We had a great time. They were screening an EPL match. The entire floor was filled with football fans. It was a great atmosphere and to go with it, there were taps of beer flowing in! Food was limited to essential starters due to the figures on the right.. However, the chicken nachos were delightful! The happy hours keep you going on the drinks- otherwise, it is steep!
Chips and beer runs to approx. 1500 per person..

Misbehaviour of Staff

The Place is all good, but the Staff is ill behaved & ill Mannered, They Can't understand the value of customer Loyalty &the importance of good customers in their bar.

The incident that Happened with me was that i and my friends went to this place and we drank booze from outside & while going in as a loyal customer to them we left our leftover booze at the entry counter.

and in mid patty i was grabbed out and accused of drinking alcohol bought from outside, which i clearly said i submitted outside.

the manager in charge could not remember who he caught with the alcohol brought from outside, so he wrongfully accused me of it, taking advantage of my situation & parting me with my group he & his bouncers miss behaved with me and took advantage of my drunk status & accused me of something totally bullshit .

And wen confronted & for the reason for his misbehaviour he could not provide with a reasonable or any reason for that ...

Feel somewhat cheated !!

Good hangout if you want to have a few beers with a couple of friends. Towers are priced very affordably but that is just to attract customers. You will leave feeling cheated when they will tell you that they short of towers or out of draught beer and you end up paying for beer at the same rate as any other pub which is a huge letdown. Cocktails will dig holes in your pockets. Food is good but all portions are moderate except for the grande nachos. Ambience is good with good lighting and funny posters. Service can be better so that patrons dont have to shout to get the staff's attention.

Are you up for the Big Dog Challenge?

If you think you've got the appetite of a horse, and could probably eat one too at any given time, then you need to try out the Irish House Big Dog Challenge. One mega foot-long beer-glazed hot dog in chicken or mustard! It's delicious and yummy, but after one of them, you probably wont have any space left for more food. If you do, well I suggest you pop an antacid for good measure! :P

The food was delicious, the salad fresh and flavours tasty, and the Stella from the tap tasted bubbly even after 30 minutes.

Go there for a quick afternoon lunch or a nice lazy Friday evening affair :)

Sucks bigtime

Music:
Too loud and random.

Food:
Everything is very below par. Maybe they need to hire a better chef.

Service:
This is a complete downer. The sort of arrogance the waiters and the manager have is ridiculous. They really need a hard bend training in etiquettes.

Ambiance:
Pretty alright. Nothing Irish about it. Maybe the architect got confused.

Price:
Expensive. Rather go to TGIF or Canvas.

Lunch Money Well Spent

I had gone to The Irish House with my colleagues, 5 of them and had a wonderful lunch. They have a lunch offer for Rs.349* (taxes separate). It rounds up to Rs.404 person.
Initially it was over sold to us, saying that the portions are small. We thought of going for it once and decide later if we want anything else. But boy were we wrong!
Sumptuous, tasty, filling meal is what we got.
Definitely a place to go again on my list.

The best place for chilling with work buddies

Pros

1. Brilliantly located
2. Good collection of beers
3. Nice Vibe
4. Great bartenders
5. Tolerates all male groups on friday evenings and weekends.
6. Did I say great bartenders?
7. Loud music so if you have nothing to talk you can just drink up (See list of cons)

Cons

1. Music gets too pop and teeny after 9 PM (Summer of 69 types)
2. If you are having a good conversation, you have to strain to listen and talk
3. Overpriced. Period.
4. The smoking room cannot take more than 4 people at a time, and at any time you will find atleast 10. And everyone who comes in says "Virar Fast".
5. Crowded. Very crowded on weekends.

So... Friday evening with work buddies - this is THE place. If you are on a date or with close friends.... not so much.

I made it to this place on a Friday evening with my friend after office hours. Packed house with a very good crowd. Good place but needs improvement

This is the first time I have come to Irish house. Must say the ambience, I loved it. DJ was playing great music all which would energise u to dance. :P
The major problem I found was the management. Its seriously poor. They just dont give a damn about ur orders. I asked for 3-4 times the person to take order for food, no answer at all. For drinks, were serving well. For food, poor management. The price was lil over priced. Like a plate of fries was for above 200.
Rest is good. Only need to work a lot on management.

Over hyped place

Heard a lot about this place....so finally last week i managed to visit. The only best part about this place is that they serve hoegaarden too in happy hours which really brings smile on my face as its not a bad deal to get 1 ltr of hoegaarden in 800 bucks (buy one 500 ml and get another free) where the five stars charge for 1000 to 1200 bucks for 500 ml. Ambiance is good but nothing gr8. Staff is least bothered to take orders and stand in groups chatting or watching the match on the screen. Management really needs to give a hard core training to their staff.

Dissatisfied. Not recommended.

While I have heard good things about Irish House, I am afraid my own experiences here have left a very bad taste in my mouth. Not only are the staff rude, but they also seem to have devised some very innovative and not particularly intelligent rules about serving beer during their happy hour. For the very first time in my life, I was informed by a waiter that a liter of beer is too much for a single person, and could therefore not be served (I had tried ordering a pitcher between me and a friend). This comes from a place that uses, of all nationalities possible, the Irish in the name of their establishment.

Previous experiences where they refused to serve pitchers during happy hour were forgiven, but I think this is the last straw. Very disappointed. The place seemed to have so much potential given the ambience and the concept. Better to try one of the other places Phoenix and Palladium have to offer.

Atrocious Place with RUDE staff running AMOK

This place claims to have "HAPPY HOUR"...IT'S NOT TRUE..they come up with the lamest excuses not to serve alcohol..I've been there twice during the so called "Happy Hour" and the first time they said I couldn't order a pitcher of beer (during 'happy hour' at 7 15 in the evening) because they had run out of beer! no,lies ...!
I went there again on friday night, believing the hogwash they had told earlier..reached there at 7 25 pm...SHARP..(their time).
We went to the bar and asked them for a 2 litre pitcher of beer..THEY REFUSED TO SERVE.. saying that we couldn't drink the beer!! WTH!???
I then asked for a 1 litre pitcher of beer and they first accepted..then another waiter came and "CANCELED" our order saying they couldn't give "us" a pitcher of beer since it was too much for us! They then very unceremoniously returned my credit card without EVEN apologising..
I've been drinking liquor for the last 10 years and have never been refused alcohol at a bar..
The staff at the Irish house need to be more imaginative if they want to successfully lie to customers...very rude to everybody..

I've gone through the other reviews about this place..many people have complained about the same things...We (the customer) have the power to set the institution in place..they can't take us for granted and be rude to us..we have a right...I think we should use our right and boycott the place..this will put the hoitty toitty staff in their place..GUYS BOYCOTT...There are many other places at Phoenix and around there that value their customers..places that have proper happy hours and politer waiters who value their customers....DON'T GO TO IRISH HOUSE THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF............

I challenge the "management" to have an explanation regarding the attitude of their staff..they really need a crash course in manners and they should review their "HAPPY HOURS" policy..

MANAGEMENT of Irish House, i am awaiting your reply...bring on your pathetic excuses...

best avoided

Do not patronise this place ! The waiters are rude, there are cockroaches in drinks ( the explanation i got was : ' we have cockroaches at our homes also !) , passable food, apology of a washroom and worst of all , the problem of overbilling. the pub thinks that as you are drunk you will not notice your consumtion, especially in a big group, and put ay amoount on the bill. this as happened 3 times to me and with almost every one who has visited this place. they are better options - avoind this place completely.

Change of Dj bad choice

Management Should not experiment on changing DJ specially on weekends i.e. Fridays and Saturdays.

I'm frequent visitor of Irish House use to visit with frnds for chilling out on weekends i use to come there specially for its quality of music and quality of food but from last few weekends at irish house but was seriously disappointed by the quality of music being played.

I was impressed by music earlier but from last few weeks it let me down and my frnds also not willing to comeback again as bad music ruined mood, no doubt the quality of food is great but its of no use without good music.
If anyone is familiar with IRISH house music they won't even bear to stand there.

worse music on weekends is not bearable that too on weekends when ppl come to chill out and relieve stress of their weekdays work.

Even Last night i.e. 7th july 2012 was really bad in terms of music.

Hoping to do needful asap.

wow!!

wow- what a place!! fantasic decor and ambience,it can easily resemble a pub in dublin or belfast( especially on a matchday). The bar/ pub feel gives way too more of a night club vibe as more and more people get high and start dancing at every available spot they can find.
food is good, service excellent.
a must go for sure

Disappointing bar

Apart from the fact that this place looks and feels good the service is just not up to the mark for a bar. Waiters will refuse to serve you happy hour drinks even if you are there 10 minutes before 8. They seem to deliberately walk around and ignore requests for drinks close to time. When you walk in at 745 they should inform you that there are 15 minutes for happy hours rather then just standing outside and asking "table for two" As someone coming from a hospitality background i think if you cant keep to your offers i don't think you are a customer friendly bar.. sorry

Good music, bad service

I went there along with my friends. The table were not available, on a weekday, so we sat at the bar. Nice ambience, good music and good crowd. However, i was bit disappointed with the service. The bartender was bit rude. Another staff member, a lady, moved my chair without asking me. And on stopping her she started arguing that i should have told her that it was my chair, when she did not ask me at first place. Disppointed with the staff members.

Nice but expensive

Been here twice.. once on a monday when they had a karaoke night... was quite good compared to other places...
Second time was a saturday... n the place was really crowded with regular club music being played... had shots n shots which quite burned me..haha..
Among the food: Liked the cheese platter n wasabi prawns

Overall, a grt place if you go easy on booze but if u wanna splurge, better to go to HRC.. :)

Love this place!

Irish house is one of the best pubs around town. They play great music everyday. Love going there after a long day at work. Saturday nights here are great too. Happy hours are a total VFM. Now that they've started with Stand up comedy too, I'll be heading there more often.

Food - Nachos arent that great. Try the chicken wings and onion rings.

Rocking time at The Irish House!

My husband and I went to The Irish House this Saturday night for the Fosters LOL event. Had a great time. The comedians were really funny. The cocktails were yummy and the food was delicious. The Nachos and the Armagh Mushroom bites are a must try. All In all it was a great experience. Looking forward to going there again.

Pathetic Staff and Customer Service

This place has the worst customer service i have ever come across!! The bartenders (who need a lesson or two in customer service) are manerless and are not shy to get into an argument with the customers while the managers just stand aside hopelessly...I have been so disappointed by the service that there is nothing much to say about the place..Too bad that they take their customers for granted..Good luck to the guys who enjoy this place.

I have specified the names of the people concerned and its your prerogative whether you want to establish the truth or not. I know of atleast 2 negative reviews posted here as I was a witness to it. Do you expect us to retain our invoices for events such as these?? Also neither am i interested in finding out which are the bogus reviews as it does not concern me.

Your defensive attitude itself shows that you have no regret of what has happened and instead of apologising, you are deflecting this issue by saying people are posting bogus reviews!! I wonder who has the time to write anything (positive or negative) about your restaurant unless they have experienced it!!

Kindly respect this platform where people share their true experiences and if you want to take this seriously, then retrospect within as I have no intention of coming back to your restaurant.

Dont bother replying to this message again.

Beer, beer and more beer

The name says it all, this place is for the beer guzzlers. Everywhere you look you will find references to Irish culture which is drenched in beer. The furniture and interiors are woody and different. The bar is good and have a good variety. Huge screen is an added advantage for the sporty people. They miss out on the food front though, I went there once and they were out of cheese !! I mean a whole mall is just beside of you and you cant arrange cheese, come on. I am not complaining though, you dont go to a bar for food.

Love this place!

They serve Hoegaarden and Stella on tap. Need I say more? The food isn't bad either. And they have a giant screen for the IPL and EPL fans. The bar didn't serve Guinness the first time I went but they did offer me Murphys.

The place can get really busy on Fridays and Saturdays so make sure you come in early.

Awesome

My husband and myself had gone to Irish house this Saturday...The ambiance was too good...nice woody look...We were sitting near the bar area...the bar tenders were very hospitable...we had ordered for some 3 cheese starter(sorry don't recollect the name) it was tooo cheesy and yummy..just the serving portion we found was small. We had availed the benefit of happy hours...the cocktails were very good...The bar tenders really suggested some nice cocktail...Over all must visit place:)..Since we read other reviews on burrp..we cross checked our bill twice...luckily no goof up on the billing side...

The best part of the place is the comfort factor you feel when you are at 'Irish House' Its the best place for beer lovers. It has comfort sitting and has all forms of beer. The food is also nice. Even on a week day you will find this place filed with people. Loved the retro music out there. All in all its the best place to sit and chill. Nice place to just sit and enjoy the IPL matched too.

I visited irish house for the zilllionth time last Friday. This time it was one crazy girls night. We OD-ed on the shots , sang out loud and loved the chicken nachos n shrimp popcorn.Wish music had more dance numbers, but i dont think its that kind of a place.
It took 30 minutes to get a table and that was a bummer, but overall we had a fab time!

Belgian Beer on tap:)

Have been to this place a few times and always had the Hoegarden or Stella on tap. These are really expensive and you only make the most of it during happy hours as you get 2 for the price of one (before 8pm). It is ridiculous to charge 800+ for a beer! But we keep going back as its awesome. The music is good (however the DJ is really confused as he keeps changing genres suddenly ...1 min u are listening to U2 and then comes Enrique!!!) The nachos are served with a very sad version of guacamole and terrible sour cream (which is more like mayo). Tried some mains and they were really good. Good watering hole, but heavy on the pocket.

Service Debacle

Being a regular and a big fan of The Sports Bar, i was naturally disappointed when it shut down so abruptly. Finally, there was some cheer when The Irish House started and became my regular joint as soon as it opened. However inspite of going there so often, I was at the receiving end of their pathetic service on multiple occasions.

Here is an account of their service blunders (Kindly note these are all on different occasions) :

1. They charged us Rs. 750/- for a shot which we never ordered. (With time I realised that this was the smallest blunder of all and a kind of habit with them)

2. They gave us a bill of Rs 2,500/- and swiped our card for Rs 7,500/- saying the bill produced earlier was wrong. We asked them how could they just swipe any amount without us even verifying the bill, to which the manager had no response. We fought to no avail and had to pay Rs 7,500/- in the end.

3. The waiter took away our starters and drinks when we stepped out for a smoke (while the plates where not empty and beer glasses were half full !!) and we had to argue our way out to get us replacements. (It has to be said that their manager Shankar Kulkarni is the worst at handling customers)

4. And finally the incident which made me swear never to go back again was when I ordered 4 small drinks in the final mins of happy hours (there were still 15 mins to close) to which the manager mentioned that I couldnt give a BULK order (clearly underestimating my capacity!) and that I had to consume those within the happy hours itself!!. I think this was the most ridiculous statement I have heard in any of the pubs I have visited and clearly not a way to treat your regular customers.

To conclude,1. Be very careful about the Billing, 2. Expect incompetent service and 3. Dont exhaust your energy on arguing with the manager.

The Happening Spot

Been back to Irish House last weekend after 2-3 weeks. I cant believe the place is as packed as it was during the holidays, and is surely Bombay's most happening bar. A lot of my friends have made it their hangout spot and I had a great time.

My personal favourite is going there on happy hours and eating their Chicken Tenders while drinking some great beer. I read somewhere they started a special lunch so will probably go try that one of these days.

Taking Advantage of Customers

Went to this place yesterday with office friends. Ordered a 3 liter beer bong (1000 bucks). The waiter asked us if we wanted a 5 liter beer keg. We said... yeah sure! (assuming that it would be at the max 2000 bucks) The waiter brings out this beer keg, opens it and pours out 5 glasses of from the keg.

After doing all this, he tells us that this keg will cost us 7500 bucks!!! WTF???
This keg wasn't listed in the menu, nor does he tell us the price before opening the damn keg and after pouring he tells us that it costs 7500.

Needless to say, we didn't touch the beer and refused to pay. It was pretty clear that this keg didn't sell much since it took 3 waiter to cork it properly and that too incorrectly, lathering up the draft beer.

After we made it clear that we wouldn't pay, we ordered the beer bong and ate the snacks and left.

Except the name...

The only thing that is Irish about this place is its color scheme inside. Otherwise, nothing - the drinks, the food, the service or the ambiance is Irish.

You are welcomed by interesting quotes through the stairway and they repeat after you get inside. The place is good for large groups of people, which automatically means it is not private enough for a couple. Loud music invites you in and like most of the modern pubs the place is buzzing with activity and noise.

There's a happy hour before 8.00pm on the weekdays so for every alcoholic beverage you have before 8.00, you will get another free - I wonder why it is not available on the non-alcoholic drinks.

The food is good. Both the vegetarian as well as the non-vegetarian. The Garlic Bread is certainly a winner here - the best of the lot that I've eaten. Sea food is passable. Pastas are superb and the meat satisfying.

For a pub I understand that it has a reasonable selection on the menu; but it does not offer so in terms of drinks. As I get it a bunch of regular Irish stuff is missing from the menus. So, I wonder what's with the name?

The service is okay - often taking too long to serve. Especially between servings the time is too much, which kind of leaves you unsatisfied. The cost is off the roof - certainly not for the fainthearted. Especially, in comparison with the quantity of food they provide it is certainly exorbitant. The varied tastes partially make up for that.

Overall I'd rate it just average. Its not a big deal if you give this a miss.

Like the place . . . !!!

Nothing Irish about the place, but yes, minus the name, its an excellent downtown pub where you can enjoy some good chilled beer. Good decor, excellent food and foot tapping music. Got to hear some of the old classics which I had not heard in ages. Need to be there early, if you want a table. This place can get real crowded. Fairly young crowd. Overall, had a good experience.

Can't stand at the bar!?

Just visited The Irish House today with high expectations. Got rejected at the door because they "didn't have tables free". Okay no problem... so I asked if I could stand at the bar, which is what people do in pubs right?! Well, apparently not, according to the fools running this place.

Haha... and what I've heard worse than not allowing to stand at the bar is that they don't serve Guinness! WTF?!

Irish by name, not by spirit

Visited on: 15 December 2011
Why? Office colleagues get-together - a farewell party

Minus points:
1. No Guinness - the spirit of the Irish missing
2. Murphy was available from Cans and not on the tap
3. Food needs some more attention. It definitely reduced a star on my rating.
4. Music was okay but somehow we need to hear new sounds. Bombay's music scene itself is pretty sad in that context.

Plus points:
1. Alternative to TGIF, ManU Cafe and Canvas
2. Food is better described than made. (For the description I give quarter star)
3. Extensive liquor menu so everybody gets something (except me who did not get a Guinness)

Now finally for the rating with a special mention to people who like a cigarette with their drinks. The Irish House provides the upwardly mobile patrons a unique slice of Bombay and its spirit by recreating the charm of cloistered spaces of the suburban rail service. If they had attached handles and put some sound track of chugging trains, we would have had a memorable experience. Its tight, its compact and ladies, there are no special compartments for you. So if you get felt up, chalk it up to having the "full experience" of local railways.

The downtown bar after work

A cold Murphy’s beer, gratifyingly greasy fish and chips and the game playing on multiple screens: The Irish House at Phoenix Mills has many hallmarks of a good Irish pub, explaining why it was busy even on a Tuesday night. Slainte!

Housed in a large space with soaring ceilings, decor at The Irish House is predictable yet somehow inauthentic, consisting of (faux?) brick walls, wooden floors, a large horse-shoe bar and eight television screens. It reminded us of a beer saloon at Universal Studios, Singapore.

Hops, Scotch and Other Drinks

Much more pleasing is the robust list of beers, which includes Sagres from Portugal, Belgian Leffe and Italian Birra Moretti. We tried and approved of Murphy’s, Brooklyn Lager and Fuller’s London Pride, all of which were perfectly chilled and farm fresh (although this might change as the bar gets older). They also serve the usual domestic brews - Kingfisher, Tuborg, Fosters, etc. - have Kingfisher, Stella and Hoegaarden on tap and offer two and three litre beer towers. Frat pack!

Non-beer drinkers can pick from a long list of cocktails both usual and unfamiliar. We started with our bartender’s recommendation of the Belgavia, a mix of gin, cucumber and ginger as well as The Ruby, a tall glass of vodka, grapefruit juice, mint and honey. Both are delish and refreshing, although don’t linger over The Ruby too long or the ice will water it down.

Also good are pineapple-black pepper and coffee-passion fruit margaritas. These are boozy, different and just the right amount of pucker-ish. Traditionalists, they also do a mean egg white whiskey sour (ask for extra lime) and Tanqueray martinis, perfectly mixed and extremely pretty.

Eat Me

Soaking up the alcohol (all of the abovementioned drinks were consumed by our party of three) were platters of food from the elaborate kitchen menu, the best of which were crispy duck spring rolls that come with two spicy dips; fish and chips featuring crackling batter and succulent flesh, crisp fries and creamy tartar sauce; and a flavourful falafel burger piled high with tomatoes, onions and a mound of yum coleslaw.

Now, For the Bad Part

But it isn’t all leprechauns and happy drunks at The Irish House – the music, for one, sucks (think Enrique, Ke$sha and Justin Bieber) as do the nachos, a sad, droopy commune of chips, dried-out cheese, baked beans and out-of-a-tube guacamole. Also disappointing are cheese-mousse chillies featuring too much batter and too little cheese and the service, which went from attentive to annoying in the twenty five minutes it took them to compile our bill due to a failed computer system.

But teenybopper tracks and handwritten bills aside, The Irish House is a fun place to blow off some steam, catch the game, or just hang with cold beers and old friends. And that’s almost better than a leprechaun.

For the folks who are sick of TGIF and ManU cafe!

Irish House is a breath of fresh air at Phoenix since TGIF and ManU cafe have just become too cheesy for their own good..The ambiance is laid-back and casual and the crowd late-evenings mostly includes "the working class of Lower Parel" (including me ;)..I'm not too much of a beer fan, but from what i saw, the 3-liter beer fountain was a big hit with the masses..The cocktails are nothing to rave about..The Chicken and Shrimp popcorn makes for good munching but the quantity is nothing significant, considering it says ":Mighty Pail of Popcorn" on the menu..The Chicken Tenders were decent too..
The staff is friendly and helpful..4 cocktails and 3 appetizers costed us approx INR 1400 (during happy hours)..Will definitely be visiting often for the ambiance and will try some beer the next time around:)

A Part of 'ol Ireland

After a long shopping spree, we decided to rest our tired legs at The Irish House. For an early Saturday evening, the place was peppered with young crowd and families alike. Luckily, seating was easy for us this time. The bricked walls, high stools and wooden floors definitely hit the right notes and gave us a sense of a quaint Irish pub. The music however was commercial and too loud for our liking.

While Guinness is probably second home to Ireland, The Irish House stores Murphy's Irish Stout instead. We walked in during their Happy Hours (up to 8pm) and ordered a pint each, making it lighter on the pocket. The beer is dense, creamy and has a caramelized flavor which was a welcoming surprise. The beer menu seemed limited for its name, since they don’t store Stella, Chimay etc. Amstel, a favorite, was not available in a pitcher.

The food however, is definitely worth digging! Irish Sergeant Potato Skins with its corn and Gouda cheese is a must as it melts in your mouth. The more adventurous, could try the Wasabi Japonica with the spicy mango chutney. Being a veggie, I settled for Hunter’s Penne – great in taste, but wouldn’t place it high on VFM. My non veg counterpart tried the Murphy’s BBQ Chicken sandwich. Since she did not speak for the next 20 minutes and had a content face after her meal, I’ll say the taste and price are worth it.

We cut our dessert order short and settled for the bill instead. The bill came to Rs. 1850 for the food and Rs. 900 for 2 Murphys during the happy hours including the taxes. The Irish experience definitely took us back to ‘ol Ireland for a while!

Good place to hangout with friends

Last night after a real crappy day at work, I walked into High street phoenix with my friends, had herd about the Irish house earlier, so I walked in to check out the new pub on the block. It was a Wednesday and a karaoke night, there was a massive crowd and for once a karaoke night didn’t tick me off! I had a blast singing and drinking with my friends and I have to say, it was a great stress-buster. Yeah, they didn’t have Guinness, but Murphys came as a blessing in disguise! This pub doesn't serve drinks - Pathetic Staff

I cannot believe the don't-care attitude of the staff at Irish House. I had to wait for 30+ minutes at the bar for someone to take my order to no avail. Two bartenders said that they cannot take orders (lolz) and they could not even get someone who would take my order. I finally left the place after 45 minutes and went to my usual favorite HRC.
There were three more frustrated customers waiting to place there order - one of them waiting for 45 mins. If this pub does not want to serve, why not shut it down? Don't go to this place if you want a drink in less than an hour of stepping in.

Terrible attitude of bar staff

We had gone to this place, 7 of us including 3 girls on Saturday night. The place was crowded just enough, not too much over. We were shocked to see the way bartender and bar managers were treating guests. We saw one girl just not able to get her drink, two guys were given whiskey but had to wait long long time to get soda even though bar staff knew about it. We saw one guy trying to get beer, the bar-girl took his request 3 times but just didn't serve him. One guy in black coat gave Jmeister to group of people happily and after that he just started ignoring other guests because they were only guys. I mean whats wrong with the bar staff ?? What we observed was the bar staff was only interested in serving GIRLS or HIGH SPENDING people. If you are not high-spender or good good girl, bar staff will treat you like SLUM DWELLER. This was our observation with 3 different guests. All can't be wrong. MR OWNER, are you reading this? Bar staff discriminates guests very strongly. We have been to 16 very good bars in Mumbai and this has worse bar staff attitude. Running a new place can't be so discriminating with guests at bar, otherwise people will stop coming after few months. Please take our feedback for improvement. Thank you.

I cannot believe the Prices

Had a great time at Irish House on Saturday night. I came to watch the Manchester game and the place was packed. Even more people came in after 11 pm when the game got over and the place was buzzing like no other place I have seen in Mumbai. The food was great especially the Heavenly Cheese and the Nachos.

I ordered 2 Towers of 3 Litre Beer with my friends and also tried their Irish Stout and Tsingto beer. Great stuff and I did not spend more than 1100 bux for the full night. How do these guys make money at those prices!!!? Great Job Irish Bar

Finally a good place in phoenix

Went to Irish house after reading all the reviews on burrp. Just two words... it rocked! Finally there is a place in Phoenix Mills that has good crowd. It was my friend's birthday so we booked a table for eight. We got a really cool centre table with high chairs almost like bar stools.
My friends called for drinks n some fancy cocktails but i was more interested in the food. The menu...hmm.. it must have taken me a good 10 mins to browse through it... finally the waiter recommended 'armagh mushroom bites' for starters and trust me this is the best veg starter i have ever tasted! Goat cheese salad was cheesy n nice.. original italian spaghetti was not bad... "Irish Lions chicken ternders" were awesome. Yep we ate a lot but next time i'll come here for the bar!

Nothing Irish about it!

Went there for the first time last night. The place was packed, which is always good to see. But, immediately upon looking at the menu our group was severely disappointed. Firstly, no GUINNESS! Which self respecting Irish establishment will not carry GUINNESS? After that initial let down, the rest of the beer menu was sub par. Nothing new and different. Secondly, their food menu had nothing Irish in it either. And lastly and most annoyingly, they had CLUB MUSIC pumping at decibel levels that we were just not prepared for. I would expect that in a night club but not a pub. There is a sheer dearth of simple, laid back pubs in this city, where good pub food+beers on tap combined with an environment that allows for easy conversations, and we were hoping this would be it. Quite unfortunate.

Drink Away

Went to Irish House on its second night... and the place was packed. Just about got the last available table. The Chicken Tenders were life changing and some great prawns.

The place was happening and I am coming back on the weekend to watch the Premiership on their large screens.

But the best thing about the place is their AWESOME beers... I tried 4 different varieties. P.S. - The Irish Murphys Beer is the heaviest one I have tried till today. A big thumps up to this new bar at Phoenix.

Hops and More

The first thing I noticed was the huge screen and reflective wall tiling making it convenient to watch a match from any position.

Cocktails are the usual. Beers are totally worth it.
Jagermeister was on the menu but unavailable at the time. Was disappointed.
Starters and main dishes are yum...exactly like they should be.

Enjoyed the ambiance here. Definitely felt like an Irish pub.
My new favourite at High Street Phoenix.

Great Start to te nightlife

This is a nice tidy place. It gives you very Ohioo Sailor kind of rusted look.

Food is ok. starters are fine and drinks are reasonably priced. There is a separate pub area.

Good competition to MUFC and TGIF. Very different atmosphere.

Mixed Experience Food is decent, ambience is amazing but service sucks!

Went here with a bunch of colleagues to celebrate my birthday. Our experience was very mixed.

Irish house has good ambience and is located in a mall that has good footfalls and there are few corporates around the area- so the demand is always high. This fact has been abused extensively. So, when we went here and asked for a table, the waitor refused to give us a table until all 7 of us were physically present- so much that we had to wait for one of our colleague who went to the wash room! Very unfriendly behaviour.

We went here after having drinks from another place and were really hungry. The service was lousy and it took us about 30 mins to just get the waiter to hear us out.

Food is decent, ambience is amazing but service sucks!
