Experience at the Square

If you have all the time in the world to keep waiting for your placed orders, then you might not regret visiting this place. The waiters take as long as an hour to get the orders. The air condition doesn't work that well and they will not pay heed even if you tell them this a dozen times.

The food quality was good I feel but the overall experience was poor and hence I will not recommend this place to anyone.

Fascinating!! at all corners of "The Square"

The dinner was amazing with the sound of waves and wind gushing along with the food being so delicious. It was hard to decide whether I am in love with the view/ambiance or with the food. And then came the third factor to confuse me more...their Impeccable Service. I had taken someone for a surprise and I was indeed surprised. Thanks a lot for the wonderful evening that "The Square" gave me.

Nocturnal creatures haven

Its a perfect destination for late night meals on weekends as their midnight buffet spreads are not only big on variety but great on taste too. It runs full capacity even at 2:45 am. They have a live breads and a pasta counter which churns out customised offerings. The restaurant is right next to the pool and also has an outdoor sitting. From the other edge of the pool you get an beautiful view of the quiet Juhu beach at night. The midnight buffet comes at price of Rs.700 per head (all inc.)

The Square, Novotel’s multi cuisine restaurant

Lured by the all you can eat promise, we reached, The Square, Novotel Mumbai’s multi-cuisine, all day dining restaurant which serves buffets throughout the day. Walk through stringent security into an impressive lobby dressed with knick-knacks and comfortable seating, to Square, located at the ground floor. The 24-hour restaurant is adjacent to the lobby, elevators and reception. An outdoor terrace facing the pool can be used for Al fresco dining. Interactive buffet stations intermingle with a huge spread pepped up with colorful deco items.

We opted for the lunch buffet and started with anticipation to the soup counter. Two yummy choices, Chicken Flemish soup and veg hot n sour soup set the mood. Next, a huge display of salads- bean sprouts, Hawaiian chicken, green peppers and broccoli and more were placed next to various cold cuts, cheese and breads. Apricots and walnuts for added flavors and choice of dressings and dips made us forget our grueling gym sessions.

After polishing off the salad, we started towards the starter’s counter which had more of Indian starters like chicken tikka, fritters, and seekh kebabs. Vodka guava shot, a shot made with vodka, guava and cranberry juice and crab sticks in sweet lime and chili dressing teased our taste buds.

The main course had two types of Dal- Dal Makhani and Dal tadka, rice preparations in form of veg biryani, chicken fried rice, tomato pulav and steam rice. Guests can order their choice of Indian bread at their tables and enjoy them along with Indian subzis like achari gobi, tawa veg, veg jalfrezi, chicken chettinad and mirch ka salan. Chicken in oyster sauce, herb fish and beef stroganoff made for the continental part of the spread.

We had to wait a while at the live pasta counters with smiling chefs. Take your pick from farfel, penne or spaghetti with tomato cream or pesto sauce. The second live cooking station had choice of grilled vegetables, Paneer, steaks and kebabs. The dessert counter had impressive desserts like apple crumble, mango soufflé, cut fruits, gajar ka halwa, a Baskin Robbins ice cream counter and assorted chocolates, chocolate cakes and marshmallows. The server prompted us to try their Italian coffee selection to end our very satisfying meal.

Verdict- The Square is a good choice for value for money buffet anytime of the day. Alternately, one can also enjoy a la carte dishes. The dishes tried by us were well made as well as displayed in a nice manner. Bathed in natural light, The Square is a good option for important client meetings or a quick cuppa in the evenings. Home delivery services are not available but guests can enjoy take away facility.

What we paid for a meal for two – Rs. 1900/- inclusive of taxes

Anytime between – open through the day.

Good Food. Good Service

Will do anything that makes my mother happy! And so, I organized for a small lunch party (kitty party, as they call it) at Square, just because I was very pleased by their setup during one of our conferences held at this hotel. I must say that they didn’t let me down, everyone was happy with the arrangement, staff’s attitude and food.
The moderately priced buffet (Rs. 700 per person) had great options. Staff were well behaved and took good care of my mother and her friends. Something that one expects from a organization. I recommend Novotel, Juhu.

Good for a midnight buffet

The midnight buffet is good on Saturday nights. Especially the Chicken biryani - one of the few places for a very late night dinner, quite steep on the price though

Pathetic food, even worse service

Had been here a couple of weeks back. Firstly I feel these guys are terribly understaffed as couldn't locate the waiter to place the order for drinks.. I had requested the gentleman who was preparing the pasta at the live counter to send it over to my table. . post 15 mins when it hadn't arrived I walked over to the live counter and it was just lying there. .had to tell the waiter thrice to get me a fork. .. after I got the ice cream told the waiter to get me the ice cream spoon..he took more than 5 minutes by when the ice cream almost melted. ..to top it all, getting the cheque took a lousy 15 minutes...
I had been to this place a year back and it was really gud.. but was an eye opener this time.. will never visit again

Waste of money

good ambience however, very bad food. Many options for buffet but no good taste. Same food for lunch as well as dinner. Seems like they even carry forward the left overs to next day. Never visit.

Desserts were good, not great.

They outta be joking!

I went along with a friend for Sunday evening dinner. Hoping to have a good "fine dinning" experience, unfortunately all I could do is wait for the next dish to be better.

The ambiance is quite rich, you might just spot a few celebrities around on your way to the restaurant. But don't get too carried away as yet.

In my honest opinion, the buffet spread offered is awfully bad. The meat is not fresh, none of the dishes served were even close to being warm. It was almost like we were served leftovers from breakfast. LOL.

As compared to other buffets, they didn't have many salad / mocktail options either. The dessert section was some consolation but again, all the good stuff was over (like I said, "leftovers"). I don't think it was value for money at all! (we payed around 800 INR per person, this was at 50% off since we had a membership card)

We took a stroll by the pool side post our dinner, it was so relaxing! But overall experience, not satisfying. I'd even add, I was sick by the time I got home. Definitely something wrong with the food.

Dissapointing buffet

Though the reviews i had heard about this place were not that good we still decided to try this place out, for a midnight buffet.
The restaurant is located in the novotel hotel in juhu ,next to hotel sun n sand.
The first thing that struck us when we entered the restaurant was that none of the staff came to greet us or show us to our tables,so we had to go around looking for empty tables. After we were seated ,one of the managers asked us to shift as they said there was going to be some maintenance work in that part of the restaurant, but till we left the place we didnt see any sort of work going on there.

As for the food the variety is surprisingly less.
There is a live pasta counter where one can choose the vegetables, pasta and the sauce & a chef prepares the pasta.
In starters there were potato wedges and fish nuggets, the wedges were nice but i was amazed to see how the restaurant was not quickly replacing many items that were getting over.
There was kheema pav ,a chicken gravy ,paneer sabji and veg & non veg biryani & the desserts had a few pastries ,fruits & gajar halwa.
The ambience is good but many groups and couples from the adjoining lounge were standing outside the glass doors besides our tables so the atmosphere wasnt that relaxed .
Some members of the staff were friendly but some were slightly rude even.
FOOD-2/5
AMBIENCE-3/5
VFM-1.75/5
SERVICE-2/5
There are many other places for a good buffet so one can give this one a skip

Vexing - Not for Vegetarians !!

Tried their Midnite Buffet on Sat (18-Jun). It comes to Rs 600 per person.

The tables were not full. You will know why.. read on..

The ambience is very good. But disappointments await you. The table napkins are STAINED and STINKY !! Cannot believe that this is the standard at ACCOR Novotels.. When it was reported to the waiter, he simply said it is a "housekeeping problem" and walked away !! Then another waiter came with a folded napkin, placed it on my table and took away the STAINED one. The new napkin DID NOT smell fresh.. they must have switched it from a distant table.. This approach is an appettite killer..

This also takes NOVOTEL out of my list forever.. a swanky beach property ALONE DOES NOT MAKE a good hotel ... "Customer-obsessed"-ness does !!

Coming to the food part..

1. Soup - Very GOOD

2. Starters - Very BAD .. there werent any.. for vegetarians.. just a couple of pieces of bread lumps.. no cheese.. they have kept fried potato wedges and chicken satay together on the SAME PAN.. HOW EXTREMELY INSENSITIVE and DISGUSTING one can get ??

3. Main Course - Average.. No variety at all..

The pastas (fresh - off the counter) were VERY GOOD.. the paratha/rotis were fresh out of the tandoor..and are pretty good. the pulao is decent.. the good food part ends here..

Otherwise.. there is NOTHING.. surprised? thats the truth !!

4. Desserts - VERY BAD : 7-8 varieties are there - all of them not suitable for vegetarians.. for veggies, there are just fruits (water melons, pinapple and papaya) and motichur laddoo... Outrageous...

There was a sardar gentleman diner who was reprimanding the waiters with a threat that he is not going to pay for this food.. Deserving !!
Overall, the food experience is disappointing ...

Overall Final rating
============
Ambience - 8/10
Service - 4/10
Food & Content - 3/10

Now you know why the tables were not full..

The 1 star I have given is only for the ambience and the beachside property..

Less variety and stale food

Went there on Saturday night
My experience:
1. No starters to speak of
2. Mostly abundance of non veg food (Veg food is hardly seen)
3. Food is cold and stale
4. Only Boiled vegetables and Daal for Main course

A road side dhaba would have been more pleasing

Never to be visited again

Decent Food. OK platter.

For 450 incl. all, I guess the food was good enough. Good VFM. Has much lesser variety than Orchid. But, food taste and quality is much better. They have a selection of pastas and u should try that out. U choose ur sauce and pasta and the chef makes it out for you, and u get it fresh from the chef's oven. Tried out the farfalle pasta with white sauce. The taste was really subtle, and the pasta was really heavy on the stomach. Ambiance is good. And the crowd's generally much sophisticated. Overall Good place for a hangout.

Be there or Be squared!

The Square is the multi-cuisine, all day dining restaurant at Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach, the flagship property of global giant Novotel in India. Conceptualized after a 'food square', the restaurant offers extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets that are a more economical option to going a la carte.
At Rs Rs.750 (plus taxes) the breakfast buffet available from 6.30 am to 10.30 am has a mix of Indian and international options to make the most important meal of the day special. Freshly squeezed juices/milkshakes are prepared in front your eyes (a guest can choose his/her favourite fruits or vegetables and the restaurant will make a 'customized' juice for them). You get Italian coffee, croissants and breads, a variety of cereals along with dry fruits and nuts, bio/ natural homemade yoghurt, congee etc.

The dinner buffet (priced at Rs 1,000 plus taxes) is a grand mix of European and Indian appetizers, main course dishes, dessert and authentic Italian coffee. Freshly baked breads such as Wheat bread and Corn bread, various cold cuts -- Smoked salmon, Chicken Salami, Pork Salami, Roast Beef, Parma ham, Speck (imported German ham) ? are available every day. There is sea food -- including lobster, squids, king prawns, scallops and crabs, a salad bar that includes sushi, sashimi, marinated Tenderloin salad with artichoke. There are two live cooking stations -- one for pasta where one can choose his/her own pasta and ingredients and the chef makes you a dish of your choice. The second live cooking station is designed for grills, beef steaks, lamb, pork chops, kebabs and tandoor. Authentic European dishes (herb-crusted cod fish, tenderloin with French mustard, gnocchi with pesto cream sauce) are served in a traditional casserole pot. Indian specialties are mostly Mughlai: Special biryani with "salaan" and a variety of kebabs such as Kashmiri Murgh Tikka, Mahi Sunheri, Mutton Ghilafi, Sunj Amjeer kebab, Tandoori chhali or Palak ke maze and Khati daal.
The Square boasts an authentic pastry chef, whose creations taste as heavenly as they sound -- Panacotta, Almond cake, cheese cakes, Saffron opera, Hazel nut and chocolate chip Italian tart and the signature dessert Chili Chocolate Mousse. An Italian coffee machine placed some distance away from the counters doles out real espressos, Italian cappuccinos and coffees.

A good Square meal ...

... just what your mom always said you should have.

We had lunch here today. When I made the booking, I was told that they didn't do a brunch on Sundays, which was a surprise for a 5* hotel. That said, they did do a decent buffet spread.

The presentation was pretty good except for a few pots and pans which were hardly filled with dishes. Makes me think that they had been left-overs from a previous meal time...

The greeting was a little distant from the three staff at the lectern near the entrance - one of whom we assumed to be the manager. Boy, that guy had a stern face reminiscent of my old school headmaster! However, this guy would have been put on detention for not having polished shoes. Tut, tut.

We were the first diners to be seated at 1pm, and so we plumped for a table overlooking the beach and sea beyond. Sagar was our waiter, and he really should be used for dental commercials as the guy had the biggest, widest smile. Other staff were friendly and chatty, and only too attentive to cater to our every whim and fancy.

The ambience was cool and airy, and generally-speaking the restaurant is spacious enough to create some privacy for intimate dining. Kids were present, but not overbearing on the decibel front. Ideal if you happen to be allergic to the little gremlins...

The chefs at the live food stations were primed and ready to please. And the puddings were pretty good too.

Not bad price-wise neither. Rs 850 plus taxes. The only thing I could suggest as an improvement would be to make it a regular Sunday brunch = whack some booze into the mix and charge a bit more for the idea. Please!

Lastly, we noticed a lot of suited management-types loitering in the restaurant, who only seemed to disrupt the service flow of the wait staff. It's a credit to the place that the waiters know what to do without being told. I would encourage the management to step aside and leave them to it next time. It's working just fine without you!

Overall an OK experience

Hie All,

I had been to this place just for nice afternoon with my better half. Nicely welcomed at the reception & a person was deputed to take us till the restuarant.
Ambience was excellent. the table we got was too good. It had the view of the Juhu beach. it was high tide..excellent view- (5/5 for the ambience)
We ordered Chicken Tikka in starters along with Pepsi.
Chicken tikkas was good. ( it was good but not excellent) - (4/5)
For the main course we ordered Chicken Biryani..I found the biryani to be average..the biryani tasted more like pulao- (3/5)
Service (5/5)
Overall a nice experience..but would surely like to try out they Lounge, looks gr8.

Nice buffet spread

A new property is come up in Juhu called Novotel formerly Holiday Inn having 4 restaruants and a lounge...

I visited the coffee shop on Friday called THE SQUARE for lunch, which is quite spacious, cool and giving a fablous beach view. They provide a-la-carte as well as buffet in lunch but i planned to go for buffet which costs 800+ taxes which is real value for money. The buffet gives you the experience of all cusines (Conti, chinese, Indian...). I loved the salads and desserts out there as they had large choices in that. Too many varieties in main course too.

They get an extra point for service as it is really outstanding..staff is well versed with the menu, courteous and helpful....

Ambience is yet simple but very elegant....maintaining the the 5 star hotel standard....

My friends informed me that they have a lounge bar Gada - da- Vida which is very different from all lounges. Would surely try this next time. Wish you guys luck and success....Will surely come again
