Wow Food

We happened to be in Mulund one evening and very famished. We were in the vicinity of R Mall and went up the flight of stairs to Urban Tadka.

It was almost empty when we entered. We headed for the farthest table in the corner below a large screen where a football match was being played.

The interior is similar as in its other branches, a very rustic and dhaba like feel to the whole environs. Menu card in form of a slate, glass typically found in dhaba's and the walls having a brick finish feel with hangings.

We ordered Ajwaini Arbi Tikka, made of Arbi, a kind of a root. It was mixed with ajwain and coated with a spicy mixture of spices thus complementing the bland taste of the Arbi. For appetiser, we ordered Jaljeera which was topped with some crunchy boondi.

For the main course came Hari Pyaaz Paneer da salaan with Lachcha Paratha. The veggie is a combination of paneer with spring onions cooked in a spicy red gravy. I found it to be bad combination of the two ingredients as the taste of the spring onions was lost in the spicy gravy.

Ended the dinner with Dal Khichdi and chaas. As always, the dal khichdi was finger smacking and chhaas was the apt ending to a sumptous spread but for the vegetable.

The damages came to Rs.450 per head which is reasonable as per UB's food standards.

UT punjabi.. chak de

This cosy restaurant does a pretty good job of giving a rustic feel in an urban setting. The decoration, festoons, pics on the wall, music, steel plates and glasses and menu on the slate make it a dhaba like experience.
Almost everything on the menu here is amazing with bold flavors. For Coolers, UT special nimbu paani is a must have. You could also try some of their desi cocktails made using ganna/ sugarcane juice, coconut water etc.
Round off dhaba style with some jaggery served with the bill which does not burn a hole in the pocket. sweet ending indeed.

Authentic Punjabi food

One of the best places to fall back on when you crave typical traditional punju food. Their black daal rocks and most of their starters are really good. Must mention the tandoori shakarkand.. something very innovative and really tasty.. We are very fond of their chicken kali mirch too, but i think they've stopped offering it on their menu.. The place has started looking a little run down, and the consistency of food too has dropped slightly.. But it's still a dependable option when the cravings really strong!

Located in Rmall, this is a great north indian restaurant!! The ambience is great with north style! The plates are good.Needs for lighting though, We had tomato shorba which was amazing! The Tandoor gobhi was well made. Veg shammi kabab was a bit dry. The chicken tikka was amazing along with pudina chutney. Butter chicken was well made! Tave ki subzi was very nice in punjabi style and medium spiced. Deewani veg handi was lacking flavour. Overall a great experience .Recommended!!

Best Punjabi Food in Mulund !!

Located inside the R-Mall thus whenever Timbuktoo and Poptate's are crowded people turn to this place. Food is amazing as usual. I usually start with Tandoori Aloo as starters with Nimbu Paani. In the main course I order Paneer Lababdar with Crisp Butter Nan/ Laccha Paratha. The ambiance will give you the feel of a proper Village Dhaba with old songs playing in the background. Service is also good until and unless the place is crowded. Do try out the green chatni they give with the food.

north india at your doorstep

i've been here so many times and also keep ordering from home time and to time; all said, the food does not disappoint. The special of the day was dilliwala tandoori which was really well marinated and well done. The food overall in terms of gravy is usually creamy, while the assortment of kebabs range from being flavourful to bombastic spice. i'd reccomend this to anyone with insta indian food cravings

The Best Punjabi Food I Have Eaten In Mumbai !

My order is usually fixed when I come here for dinner- Paneer Makkhanwala, Dal Fry, Rumali or Butter Tandoori Roti and Jalebis for dessert with Rabri ! Earlier they used to serve pineapple raita, now discontinued (disappointing) , which used to be a part of the regular too. This place serves non-veg and drinks as well, and their nariyal pani with vodka is something totally enchanting (served in the actual nariyal). Starters are really tasty too, actually order anything in paneer and you will love it because their paneer is sooo soft and they are generous in their portions! Service will depend on the days, but is usually good, and their manager usually stops over and asks if you found everything to your expectation.

Nice place to wander in 80's

Ambience of a Dhaba, Cliché art adorning the walls, rough wooden logs used for tables and seating, Menu in a olden style, Servants in traditional costume,,,with again Bollywood music playing in the background....Quite an unique experience...who wants to unwind along with his family...it sets the right mood. Food more or less is tending towards being tastier...tremendous scope for improvement.
Service is not really mentionable, cos as a customer I expect undivide attention from Waiter/ Steward/ Captain to cater to my requirements in a very prompt and polite manner. I thin this problem is everywhere. Staff needs periodic training to improve their soft skills over a period of 6 months continual program.
The Dhol for anyone's Birthday party is definitely a nuisance for other patrons. Staff can think of alternative soft methods to applaud and wish for some ones birthday.
Overall a satisfying experience to visit it again... hope to see the improvements.

Thanks

Eh ! Punjab Di Shaan !

Since its located at R Mall, which is a happening place to be :)
Urban Tadka adds the 'Twist of Punjabi Food' as well as the atmosphere too...
The 'AMBIENCE' was just fabulous because they've used each and every stuff for the decor related to punjab, such as khatiya, long glasses(used for Bhaang), small lit lamps etc
(I wont tell you much or else you wont visit there :)
We had Missi Roti, Makkhan Naan, Dilliwala Chilly Paneer and Tawewali Sabji :)
The 'FOOD' was 'YYuUUmMMmmmmmMMMMmmMM...'
It just feels like you're having dinner in a punjabi's house !
The thing which I most liked about them was, the style of naming Dishes and the way of Menu Designing…
At last, 'SERVICE' was good, The staff was courteous and Helpful.

Nice Tadka!

I just love being at this place: nice dhaba ambiance and amazing food. I wont know much about the veg stuff here, but I can vouch for the chicken dishes...simply great. It does not just stop at the ambiance to give you the feel of a dhaba, but it ends up till your table wherein you would be served in steel plates and glasses. The chicken starters are awesome and I dont miss the Nimbu chicken. The Ambarsariya chicken is a good option for main course. Something to drink? - the list on the menu wont disappoint you. If you are looking for a Dhaba experience and in Mulund, give Pind Baluchi a miss and check this out!

Gud fud - Equally bad service

The food as many patrons have already mentioned is good.. Nimbu Chicken, Dilli Waale Chilli Chicken, Dal Khichdi, Chicken Abasariya, Kadi pakoda are dishes which will keep bringing me back to the joint. But the service always makes me wonder why again in spite of dismal service that they provided last time we were there...

Good food but service lets you down!!

We went to UT Mulund on 25-Apr-2011. Being a weekday, we didn't have to wait for a table as there was hardly any customers. However once we entered we escorted to Table 43 which was a seating for 6 and we were 8 guests.
After scrambling around, we were offered one extra chair.

We decided to order some drinks and the starters. however the drinks we ordered were not available, so we asked for some other drink options. Surprisingly there was nothing of our choice that was available. So we had to compromise on our selection.

So we went ahead to order the starters Nimbu Chicken and Banjara kebabs which were amazing and totally delicious.
but as our experience with the drinks, the starters arrived sans chutneys, sans cutlery. In spite of repeated requests for the same, we never received any.
After the equally delicious main course, we requested for the bill as it was getting a bit too late for the kids. The bill arrived after 4 repeated requests. We paid off but later realised that we were charged for an extra drink that we never consumed!!!!!!

All I can say about this place is that the food is excellent but the service lets you completely down! Management of UT -- Time for you to take this up seriously if you are reading this review.

Awesome food !

I have been a regular at UT, Mulund for the past 3-4 years now and this restaurant has never disappointed me. I always go for my favourites : Chicken starters ( Dhuandar Murg Tikka - Hot , Kandahari Murg Tikka - Medium , Malai Murg Tikka - Mild).
In the main course, i have tried most of the chicken dishes and all of them have been good.
Even tried the makke di roti & sarson da saag once... even that was awesome...
The UT style nimbu paani is an all-time favorite.
In desserts, nothing can beat the hot & succulent Jalebis and the Malai kulfi of UT.
The cost is also just right. Ambience is good... nothing over the top. Service is good...
All in all... a perfect place to have a good time with friends, family and loved ones.

We (my wife and I) reached Urban Tadka at 1900 hours. It was full and we had to wait for 20 minutes. We are vegetarians. The food was worth the wait. Decent service. Nice ambience. Good food. Our menu was as under:
Shakahari Shami Kebab, Taweywali Sabzi, Missi Roti, Makai Ki Roti, Jalebi with Rabdi.
All the food was served hot.

My favourite family dining!

I have been here again and again and again..Other restaurants come and go, and I end up coming back to Urban Tadka. The 'dhaba' ambiance is awesome, but they should make the place a little more brighter, I feel its too dim. The dhol and nagada is something different. What I love the most is the food and drinks, they're marvellous! Never had to complain. Service is usually good but during hectic peek times on weekends it may get a bit low. Otherwise its an A+ experience! Oh but by the way, I'm just talking about the Veg food, I have no clue about the NonVeg! :)

Good food, ok service!

Other urban tadkas have a comparatively faster and better service than this one at mulund. Though the manager was sweet and kept on asking, how is the food, give us 5 minutes, hope u liked it...and all those gestures!! Their paneer is worth all the delays...i love the tenderness of their paneer. I love the quantity that this people provide. Its an expensive place, but you save since you have to order less. Laccha paratha were ok, garlic naan was good. The most yum thing for the trip was indeed the dal makhani and the "traditionally cooked" veg biryani...It was real nice. Not spicy, nor too mish mashed. The rating is defly for that!

Disinterested, Demotivated Staff !!!

I used to count Urban Tadka at R Mall, Mulund among my favourite restaurants in the suburbs. Sadly this restaurant is no more the place it used to be. I went along with my parents on 25th December to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The staff seemed absolutely disinterested and indifferent. We literally had to wave out to the stewards, one of whom then came later and shamelessly took our order. Being from the hospitality industry, I can understand there are times like Christmas and New Year's eve when eating joints are jam packed and it does become difficult for the serving staff to give personalised service to every table . But the least they can do is acknowledge the customers, offer them the menu and let them know that someone will be there to attend them in a short while. What happened at Urban Tadka is nothing short of indifference and I must add arrogance on the part of the staff to have kept us waiting at least 20 mins till someone came and took our order.
But I must add that the food was the saving grace and is the only reason I am even giving two stars to this place. We directly ordered a Tandoori Aloo stuffed with Paneer for appetizer. It was very tangy, spicy and very nice yet the portion size small and left us wanting more. After that, Mum ordered a portion of Dal Makhani with Bajre ki roti which in her words was "Soft even after they had cooled down, as Bajre ki roti has a tendency to harden after it cools down." Then me and Dad ordered a Ambarsariya Murgh Biryani, Murgh Makhani with a Lucky Singh da Aloo ka Parantha. The Parantha was served with a dollop of butter. The Food was delicious, filling and typical 'Urban Tadka'. Finally for dessert we ordered Jalebi with rabri and two glasses of Sweet Lassi. The damages done to the pocket were Rs.1040 for 3 people. When I filled up the comment card, I obviously showed my disappointment by giving them a rating of 'tolerable' in their service department. A captain came upto me and asked me what was wrong with the service, to which I told him all I have written about above. He smiled sheepishly without even offering an apology.
All in all, a mixed experience. Where the service (or the lack of it) fumbled, the food made up.
If the management of Urban Tadka is reading this, Please make a serious note of the attitude of your staff. You really need to teach them the softer skills of Hospitality. You can't learn basic manners at any hospitality institute. If this is the way things go on, you will slowly lose your loyal customer base. You cannot always get away with lousy service by serving good food. Please treat this as an area of development which needs to be worked upon and not some Nasty Review intended to tarnish the image of this wonderful restaurant.

Went here with two of my pals for a birthday treat... ordered a chicken starter and chicken gravy with naans(don't even remember the names of the dishes)
Ended the meal with some nice warm jalebis...
Food was pretty nice..the quantity was not that great...
now the reason for giving it a 1 review....
Towards the end of the meal we noticed two cockroaches happily scurrying on the wall next to us..... when we pointed it out to the waiter he proceeded to SMASH the roaches with his BARE HANDS!!!! yes his bare hands!!!!!!
Did'nt even see him go and wash his hands... Probably wld'v served some other table their garma garam rotis with those hands...
We paid the bill(app 600 bux) and got the hell outta there!!!!!

Punjab-da-tashan!

Ive been to this place so many times now that when i took my parents(i usually visit with my friends) there, they were given a royal treatment !!!

Okay.. so start with the Urban Tadka special nimbu paani.... its a nimbu paani with a zing and a sugarcane stick to chew on! ... u cud also try the masala soda if u like ur stuff really spicy... it comes with big peppercorns and chillies!!!! brilliant stuff....

starters....Nimbu chicken, tandoori aloo, dhuaandar murgh tikka are really good... avoid jheenga fry though.. i tried it 2 times and both times the prawns wasnt fresh... (i try more than once to give them a "chance" :) ) .... also if ur a soup person... definately try Paaye da shorba... u will change ur opinion abt paaya!!

for the maincourse, ambarsariya murgh is my all time fav. u just cant go wrong with it... and so is jallandhari murgh... even the biryanis have the wholesome flavour and the aroma that they need to have.... trust me try the choley tey aloo di biryani... its really magnificiant (and it comes from a hard core nonvegetarian) ....

for the meetha... dig into the malai kulfi or enjoy the jalebi + rabdi mix.... its really good.....avoid the phirni (it tastes like its made from custard powder!)

Overall... good food, sometimes noisy ambiance (dhaba look & loud old songs) .. the service at the mulund UT is brilliant .... a meal for 4 with non alchoholic drinks(they do serve alchohol), starters, main course and desserts can be around... 1500.... a decent figure for a decent evening with friends/family.....

Awesome - perfect punjabi plavour

I have a fixed order here - sarson ka saag n makki roti, laccha paratha, aloo chatpate, aloo chhole dum biryani. They're just sooooo good.
Even non-veg is very good.
You get Shorba there & not regular soups, so think twice before you order some.
Appetizers are also very good, though not much of a variety available.
Ambience is very nice with a proper punjab feel. service is above average.
It's worth it with around 250 per head

If a restaurant is full on weekdays even after 2 yrs of its opening you know how good the restaurant is!!
What I like abt UT is that bthey keep changing their menu and ambience and somehow they manage to keep it elegant inspite of using the dhaba theme. The service is great with some waiters who can recog u by now. Also although the place is crowded they dont hurry you.

RECOMMENDED FOODSTUFF:1)Tandoori aloo(nothin what u can expect)
2)Jalebi with rabdi(ask for fresh hot ones n u ll end up liking ur fingers)
3)Ambarsariya murg(alltime favorit)

Also they read all the suggestion cards and sometimes even call u back and offer you free dinner...Experienced twice!!!!

Good place

Urban tadka is the only good restaurent inside r-mall and gets packed very fast. U have to literally wait for hours on weekends to get inside.

Well this place has a kind of dhaba-like feel and ambience( which is sadly becoming too common these days). The lighting is quite dim so that others cannot into your plate which is good.

The food is typical punjabi food and this place provides a limited variety to choose from.
The gosht-ke-tikke are excellent for starters.

As far as other dishes are concerned they are neither bad nor very good. just about ok.

overall its a decent place to spend with ur family or friends.

chak de fatte!

For those looking for authentic Punjabi food, I can’t think of any other place as a complete package than this. I’ve been to their 4 bunglow as well as the mulund branch and found the food and service alike. There’s another restaurant with the same name in kandiwali (which is supposed to be owned by a separated brother, which is pathetic – in service as well as the taste, please don’t go to that branch unless you’re in some real crises for food)
Coming back to the ‘original’ UT, I feel the first place which strikes you is the ‘relaxed’ ambiance, even though this rural theme has been done to death by other hotels, this one retains its genuine flavor by miles. If you’re looking for some snob factor to show off the etiquettes of the western world you’ll be disappointed but if you’ve been to Punjab long back, and would like to get some tit bits of your memories with some pleasing ambiance, you should like this place in all probabilities.
Its hugely popular, resulting in great rush on special days rather nights, and hence you’ll be disappointed again for the chaos or the wait…but then a lot of my frens share this feel that they don’t mind that for the experience and the bargain that the get in return!
Experience – its got the basics of a decent restaurant the first being FOOD! Typical Punjabi food, with a nice twist here and there…be it preparations or even the branding of the dishes! The Quantity is amazing…it was more than your heart can take, and my stomach made some space somehow as I’d hate to waste that food!
The ambiance has got good conversation starter kind of tricks done with accessories…be it the lamp made out of dhol, the lamp again made by ‘bangles’, the photographs of rural Punjab with amazing simplicity but great impact, the bicycle in the aisle, the kites and toys here and there, the colors, which are bright but inviting!
The staff is also very nice and cooperative; we got the preparation of the dish ‘veg keema kabab sabzi’ written by the waiter on our request (I don’t remember if that’s the real name of the dish there)
The staff is warm and very well trained…they make sure to get the real feedback of the food from the customers, and even then if you’re not happy, you can call the owner directly on his cell mentioned on the standy at the desk!
The best price is its moderately priced at that kind of food and service. The average price would be rs.130-150/- for a dish, drinks with interesting Indian twist might sound lil costlier, but the fun which comes along with the presentation style justifies that amount.

I might be sounding as if I’m being hired by the hotel, but trust me I’m not, I guess this place have made a place in my heart definitely through my stomach.

I’d recommend this place to anyone and everyone…!

Urban Tudka

I really hate this place. Its all decked up with some pretty cool rural style furniture and decor and would impress people who are more into the ambience than the food but I have to say that this place dissapointed me. Urban Tadka is owned by the same group that owns Pop Tates (which i pretty much hate too) and Timbuktoo. What iv noticed with these resturants is that while they have some pretty clever interiors and the place has a nice theme to it, the food isnt really any good. I had a butter chicken, naan and some kababs here and didnt really tihnk much of it and would definatly avoid it. The place somehow lacked any class and really is kinda crap. Surpirsingly there was a wait at the restaurant and it was pretty busy when I went there (on a weekend). This resulted in some really poor service and we literally had to catch hold of a waiter to make him take our order. The waiters had no training in the menu and just wrote down what we said and didnt know how to answer any questions about the food. The food took pretty long to arrive. The place isnt cheap and though Im not sure I tihnk it was around 200 per dish. Overall Id never go here again.
