Good Place For A Quick Bite

This review has been long pending, it is actually for their defunct Viman Nagar outlet at Phoenix Market city. My wife and I happened to visit it on two occasions. Once for a evening snack and once for lunch.

During our evening snack we had a Grilled Vegetable sandwich and a Cajun Chicken; which is on their starter menu. The wait staff was very engaging and assisted us with the menu as it was our first visit there. The food was good; not great as the Sandwich bread was a bit crumbly and the Cajun Chicken was letting out too much oil; normally the Cajun rub should have just coated the chicken. We ordered iced tea's (they did not have a liquor license) which were well presented but overly sugary; the essence of the tea had been drowned in a bath of sugar syrup!

The next time around we visited for lunch, my wife had a risotto and I had their grilled chicken; both were very good; the risotto was perfectly cooked and the sauce had amalgamated in perfect harmony with the risotto rice. The chicken was moist and tender; not over laden with drawn butter (this is the trick most restaurants use to ensure that their chicken remains moist). This time we decided to stick to aerated beverages as we did not want our palates to get over whelmed by the taste of sugar!

The service overall has been consistently good for both our experiences there. It's sad to see the place closed now, however I do hope they fix a few minor glitches with their product where ever they open next.

I have deducted one point because of our initial experience there.

Authentic Italian

Being a vegetarian, Italian food has always come to rescue in foreign territory with slight change in the preparation(just remove the non-veg items).
I was always yearning for good italian food in Pune until i stumbled upon this place in Phoenix Market City.
My wife was skeptical before entering, but she was raring for more and relishing on the authentic and sumptuous Italian experience we just had. We had a veg Fusilli bucati pasta and vegetable Pizza. Pasta was perfect and so was the wood fired pizza. It had right amount of toppings and cheese. We also had a tangy/spicy Guava mocktail. My 1 year old son also enjoyed his chocolate dessert, just that he broke a plate :(, but the hotel staff were nice to not charge me :).
Attendees are courteous and welcome customers with a beaming smile but i feel they should educate the customers on Italian cuisine as the menu is confusing for people like me who does not know any italian menu item other than Pizza and Pasta :).
Must visit place!

Dil Maangi More

A cool place designed on the lines of a Trattoria .

Good variety to choose from but the staff is too many and lost most of the time

Service could be better.

Pricey for the food. Maybe thats why they have 30% discount

Terrible,, Awful is an understatement

Total contrast from the Mumbai Branch in terms of service, quality, courtesy & taste. There was a promotion for 50 percent off on the food bill. Visited with a couple of friends at Phoenix Pune for dinner. There were empty tables but we were told to wait out since they were reserved with a rude behaving manager.. We protested and after ten minutes we were given an empty table. We ordered prawns, pepperoni pizza, and a chicken dish. The prawn was not cooked properly, the pepperoni was not fresh and smelled odd, the chicken was just about ok. The pizza was replaced and we decided to play safe and ordered bbq chicken pizza, when the pizza arrived there was no sign of mozzarella cheese. It was a bitter experience, in the face of 50 percent discount the restaurant is compromising on the quality of the dishes.

Highly Uncourteous!! Will never go back.

I'd been to Cafe Mangii in Mumbai and also in Viman Nagar earlier and wanted to go with my husband on his birthday yesterday. So I called the day before yesterday to book a table for last evening at 7.30 pm specifying that it's my husband's b'day. It so happened that we turned up at sharp 8 pm and were told by the staff that they've already released our table to some others. I asked him why didn't he call me on my phone to find out where we were, to which he replied quite unsurely that he did. I definitely think he was lying as I was throughout in full coverage area and he wouldn't have attempted calling at all !!. I saw that there were 2 table free and asked if we could sit there and reply was a flat 'no'. There was no apology or trying to figure if they could accommodate us. They need to learn how to treat customers. Also if you cannot oblige at least speak obligingly. Since I was accompanied by my peace loving husband and not wanting to create a scene on his b'day I left, but they need to know how discourteous their behavior was and for sure I'm never going back to this outlet again.

Cafe Mangii- one of the perfect places for a date

Cafe Mangii is a part of chain restaurant originating from Mumbai, which have mushroomed in two malls of pune yet.
The ambience of cafe Mangii is quite welcoming especially the one located in Amanora park town, with the musical fountains on display and wooden floored outside seating arena provides a nostalgic experience with your loved ones.
To start with the salads served on the menu, the Caesar salad is heavenly which comes with an option of chicken/ Norwegian salmon/ simply veg, this salad tastes amazing when eaten with pinkish treats of salmon which melts in our mouth instantly and to top it all the generous shaving of parmesan cheese makes one go roman.
Cafe mangii also serves an array of wood fired pizzas which mostly are vegetarian; my choice though would be the Chicken Cajone pizza which comprises of cheese, herbed chicken chunks along with sundried tomatoes which play well amongst each other ultimately providing a great balance of flavour. This pizza definitely defies the notion of pizza being a part of junk food.
If you are a Norwegian salmon fan, do not miss the Philadelphia rolls which comprises of heavenly salmon with herbed cheese filling.
Overall its a good place to hang out with family & friends.

thanks so much

Hmmm...I'd like to visit again; but...

I had visited this joint last week on the 15th August with my wife. The initial welcome was a bit awkward as there wasn't anyone to greet you when you got in. We waited for almost about a minute and then proceeded towards the nearest seating for 2 people. To my surprise, just as we were getting into the seats the waiter came and asked us how many people we were? I was already starting to grin at this amusing situation.

We then got greeted by a Jasmeet Singh; a very friendly steward who did the welcome greetings and bringing to notice of the special offers that were going on in the restaurant that evening. My next question was - Do you serve wine with this fine Italian dinner? Well, being it the 15th of August Independence Day - a DRY DAY; this was more of a general question for others days of the year when it is not a DRY DAY. Well, the restaurant has got a permit only for SATURDAYS & SUNDAY.

Mangii is one many pizza places in India who do their pizza's in a wood-fired oven; very UN-ECO-FRIENDLY but good in its own way.

We ordered for the a GAMBERONI which is pizza with a topping of KING PRAWN priced at 575 or 625 ( don't remember which ). The pizza arrived after 30mins of ordering; much like the 30min promise of other pizza joints. The surprise element was that the pizza had 4 single prawn cut into 8 halves and spread around the outer region of the pizza. A half-kilo of KING PRAWN in the open fish market would cost about 250 to 300 and you get about 10- 15 Pieces or even more. I am willing to pay 600 for a KING PRAWN pizza if it has sufficient PRAWN in them but this was a total waste.

After being left hungry and upset we thought of trying something more MEATY and FULFILLING. Jasmeet helped us with the selection and suggest the TENDERLOIN BEEF STEAK with a choice of gravy sauce. I asked a MEDIUM-RARE steak with a Creamy Garlic Mushroom Sauce. The steak got served with a portion of potato wedges, boiled roquette leaves with herbs, quarter pound of steak with the gravy on top and the extra gravy on the side. The first bite melted away all my anger against the joint. The meat was in actual cooked to MEDIUM-RARE which I haven't experienced in other beef cooking joints in Pune. It was juicy and succulent and well marinated with the taste of the meat still stronger than the sauce. In most places, the taste of the meat is governed by the sauce laid on it; but this was a really good piece of BEEF STEAK. We like it so much that we ordered for another round even before the first bite melted into my mouth. This would have been even better if there would have served dry red wine.

Bottom line I would like to add; if you are serving Italian you better serve wine with it or don't bother serving Italian at all.

All Hype, No Show.

A lot has been said about Cafe Mangii, with reviewers rating it great. Which was the primary reason I visited Mangii. But what unfolded, was a different story altogether.
The Ambiance: Nothing to write home about. The seating is comfortable, with a live kitchen facing the seating, and a tiny dessert rack, almost hidden near the entrance. One part of the room is overshadowed with a display of items on sale. Nothing special, but comfortable anyways.

The Service: Slow. Very Slow. Its understandable on a weekend, but on a weekday, it seems out of place. I was given an incorrect order, which wasn't for me, and was given a Rawas Steak that I ordered, under the name of Lobster and Cheese! Uncanny. Unprofessional. Unacceptable.

The Food: Seriously. For everyone who's opinions I respected and went for an experience, where is that great food? Definitely not here. The food was average at best, trying hard to make a distinctive punch, but not quite making it there.
Since they don't serve alcohol, though they do have the audacity to still present you with a bar menu, I settled for a Miami Watermelon. Or so it was supposed to be. Honestly, I have never tasted something which tasted so much like nothing. No flavor of Melons, no distinctive taste of its own. It tasted like straight iced water. Something definitely wrong here with the mix. Very wrong.
Next came the Herbed Chicken. Yes. This was actually good. Grilled well, with a distinctive flavor. The meat was succulent and fresh. Raising expectations, I decided to give the Smoked Indian Salmon a try. Surprisingly, it tasted like a fish version of the Herbed Chicken! Both on the table, side by side. Both tasted carefully. Negligible difference in flavors. I honestly doubt the chefs competency with herbs and grills, with two uniquely flavored preparations, tasting almost the same. My verdict, this was a quick fix to speed up serving time. Understanding the way hospitality works, I've seen that before. Mediocre at best, again.
Then came the disaster. The Rawas Steak. The fish was unbelievably chewy. Being a true blue meat eater for 20 years, stale meat was instantly recognizable to trained taste-buds. A colossal letdown.
After much deliberation, I decided to give their pizzas a try. Boasting about them in the menu, was definitely something they should have avoided. The Chicken Cajone pizza, was absolutely average. Wood fire pizza, yes. Delicious. No. I've had better wood fire pizzas in town, let alone a place that boasts about them. The chicken was mildly flavored, but not consistently. The tomatoes overpowered the entire flavor of the pizza, with the onions presence, almost negligible. Cheese? Don't even bother about it.
Mangii may claim to serve authentic and delicious wood fore pizzas, but the truth is far from that.

Verdict: The food was a disaster, the service was slow and the ambiance was average. Cafe Mangii proves to be all hype and no show. Definitely an evening wasted, and a lesson learnt as a food connoisseur. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, avoid Mangii. For lazy eats and average food, this place might be enough. Expect nothing more.

Best Italian food in town!

Had dinner at the newly opened Cafe Mangii, inside Phoenix Market City, Viman Nagar. The ambience is pleasant with soft music and lighting that gives you a feeling of privacy for that dinner with your spouse or family. We jumped right to the main course with the Fettucini pasta..it was a delicious mix of flavors, made in just the right amount of red sauce. We followed that up with a Capricciosa pizza.. which was a revelation.. without doubt the best pizza I have ever had!

The drinks menu is very limited and some more personal attention from the staff would go a long way in securing second visits. But all in all, the place takes real good care of your taste buds. A must go for all pizza hut and dominos regulars, to re-discover italian food.

Cafe Mangii

I had one of the best times of my life at cafe mangii. There was a surprise birthday dinner organized for me by friends and family. The food was simply excellent and delicious¬Ö with soft music playing around, and especially the wood-fired pizza and cheese poppers starters. It was perfect Italian food and tasty too right from the starters and main course to the desserts which were mouth watering. Everything was delicious but the cheese cake was exceptional. There is no other place a cheese cake like that would be served.
And its at a convenient location too, at the phoenix market city mall, right next to my place! Looking forward to visiting again.

Absolutely love it

I went with my friends over the weekend to try out Cafe Mangii. We totally loved the variety on the menu. We ordered some amazing pastas - Penne Romana and the stuffed spinach ravioli armellino was the most delicious dish we had tasted in a long time. We tried the pesto base capricciosa pizza and totally loved the wood-fired aromas from the pizza. The strawberry ice tea was really refreshing as well. This restaurant is definately on our most favorite places in Pune!
