Punjab Closer to Your Home
Whilst we were travelling to Pune over a weekend, we had to visit Chaitanya Parathas for a fulfilling Punjabi experience. I have been here before but wanted my family to experience it too.
Get traditional with the Aloo, Aloo-gobi, Aloo-onion and Aloo-paneer paratha served with a generous helping of butter and curd. However, I quite prefer the chutney and pickle to enhance the taste of parathas. One paratha should be enough to fill a more than average eater. We certainly did not stop at this. Get a portion of Rajma chawal and a patiala lassi to finish that Punjabi meal. Be rest assured you will be so full, you won't be able to move from your seat.
The place ranks pretty low on hygiene but that is not what I visit this place for. The service remains average and is quite confusing for a newbie.
Say good or bad, you cannot keep yourself away from this place. Anytime I travel to the city from Mumbai, Chaitanya's is a must visit place for me.
I was in Pune after many years and happened to pass through F C road and I saw Chaitanya's. It used to be our Savior many years ago when salary was less and cash flow during month end was minimal. During those times, one heavy breakfast here and it would suffice through the day.
I purposefully dropped in on an empty stomach to satiate my cravings for paratha. It is still as crowded as it used to be in those days, frequented by hostelites and PG's. Still the same clamor for finding a decent place to sit and the high decibel conversations.
I had a Lahori paratha, which comes with a generous helping of makkhan and curd. Kudos to Chaitanya's for maintaining the taste. I had a normal lassi, did not dare order a Patiala lassi for the fear of not being able to finish it, I guess my capacity has reduced over the years.
But now that I am frequenting Pune more often, I will find my way to Chaitanya's to catch for lost days.
This is a great paratha joint on FC road which is easy on the pocket. The parathas here are humongous to say the least. I have been at this place many times and this place lives upto the hype. They have a large variety of parathas. My favorites are the Methi Cheese and Chilly milli paratha. The service and ambience are okay, nothing worth mentioning. Do try their Patiala Lassi, its quite good.
Parantha lovers...place to be
There is a large variety of paranthas available here.
This is a place to be if you're very hungry and want something filling and home-like in a decent amount of money.
Must visit place for parantha lovers.
They give a lot of butter in each parantha, which you'll definitely love if you love paranthas. Everyone knows how important the butter is to parantha.
Ambiance of this place is nothing great, its a little more like the street side food, but the food more than makes up for the fact.
A must try : methi cheese and paneer parantha
Tasty Food BUT Poor Service..
Chaitanya servers awesome paratha's, dal-makhni, lassi and other typical punjabi dishes. Prices are reasonable too. Quantity of any dish is very decent too.
But the service is poor, you have to wait for half an hour after placing the order. Couple of times they served me wrong order and then they took more 30 mins to correct it !
Parathas are just good.!
Been to Chaitanya Paratha..
Undoubtedly, tastes good but not that great.. Tried basic parathas like, Paneer & Alu Paratha. Would say,, worth trying once..
Also tried Nikiz fast food centre at Aundh.. Though far behind in competition from Chaitanya Parathas, surprisingly found parathas too delecious as compared to Chaitanya's.
For regular Parathaians,, would recommend Nikiz.
Best biryani in town
Though this place might be known for Parathas but what I liked most here was Chicken Biryani.
Since I was in Hyderabad which automatically raises your expectations from food, I have become quite picky about biryani.
None of the places including, Marriott, Radisson, westinn or Golconda served what I was looking for.
Chaitanya did. Awesome chicken biryani with every rice separate and flavored with chicken meat and best spices costs around Rs120
I did try the prathas here which are decent but nothing great. This place ranks very good for value for money.
Once paratha is sufficient for one person costing around Rs50 - 70
Much hype than the food
Was been here today after about 4 years, for completely different experience. We ordered Paneer Onion Paratha, Paneer Manchrian, Jaljeera & Kairi Panna. The paratha & jaljeera were right on, though the paneer used was not fresh for the Manchurian, also kairi panna was just all-right.
Also I prefer paratha's with nice & hard curd, though the curd was not that great too.
The ambiance needs a renovation too, considering the summer heat...
Not only Paratha but other items are also too good
I normally like the paratha's here, but I also tried the other items on their list and the BAIGAN BHARTA - PARATHA here is simply mind blowing.
I just cannot get enough of it now.
If you are looking for something else then paratha here.
Give BAIGAN BHARTA - PARATHA a try. Guarantee you won't be disappointed.
If it is Parathas it is Chaitanyas!
Chaitanyas a wide range if parathas. You could just get lost thinking which one to take. They parathas are well stuffed and heavy. They are enough for a heavy lunch even if you havent had breakfast. They serve the parathas with sweet curd which was good as no one else serves sweet ones. In parcel I took Panner paratha and an aloo paratha as I didnt want to go much in detail. They 3/4th of the panner paratha was enough for lunch and 3/4th of r aloo was enough for dinner.
Apart from parathas they have veg rice which even has Panner it. The restaurant is a little slow but its worth the wait. Also you need have some special attention has they may serve you some thing wrong which happened with a person sitting next to us.
At the end- I would suggest that if it is Parathas it is Chaitanyas!
Best parathas in the city
Mouth watering parathas. Been eating at this joint for the last 5+ years, the food has always been as good as ever.
They opened up a non-veg part in the adjacent shop, decent food over there.
Also, please do not forget to order a "Patiala Lassi" at this place - out of this world!
"Probably the best paratha in the world"
"Probably the best paratha in the world" ;-) the tagline does justice to Chaitanya's. We ordered paneer paratha and aloo paratha - both were really tasty. Parathas come with a dollop of butter, green chutni and dahi. The lassi was ok.
You need to order and pay at the counter first, get a coupon and then hunt for a table. You then need to use all your skills to attract the attention of one of the waiters or head-waiter (aka tai!).
Chaitanya is generally very crowded but with a quick turnover. It provides huge value for money and hence is hugely popular with youngsters and families alike.
Bottomline - do not miss the parathas here!
Undoubtedly best Parathas in Pune
Whenever you feel uncontrollable itch to eat real Punjabi khana, this is the place. The place is too crowded with food lovers, and in evening you may have to wait for 15 min. to get the seat, in veg section. Yes they do have 2 separate sections and nonveg section is having even more rush. Your wait is a bit tolerable due to friendly waiters and in purchasing coupons. A big list is displayed above the counter itself which easily require 10 min to read. Rather you may want to jump to favorite dish Aloo Paratha.
This restaurant is serving best Aloo Paratha. One dish of Paratha costs Rs. 45/-, a bit higher than elsewhere. The taste justify the price. Very nice, Tasty, tava hot paratha will be in front of you with curd and a blob of butter. One can definitely enjoy the paratha.
