No doubt, the best cakes in town. Limited variety, but amazing! Copper chocs and Baker's Basket out from the list now! Custom made cakes are also very good ! Service at Bavdhan Branch is little slow given the rush and space constraints... The owner and her daughter are generally in the Aundh store in the evening hours ( We frequent Aundh more than Baner) and they serve with a smile.....She seeks feedback immediately and there is nothing more to say other than - GR8! ....A sure delight for bakery lovers...!
The best bakery in Pune
It is a family favorite. We get evening snacks two to three times a week from Ritchies. I became an instant fan of the bakery they day Richard casually offered to make me baguettes whenever I need it. Though the baguettes did not live up to the quality I got from the initial few orders I continue to stay on as a regular because of so many good reasons.
The top of the list is his Irish coffee cake - which is out of the world in taste and consistency. A close second will be the best black forest cake in town. The sponge they use was always so special - moist, soft yet firm enough to carry the flavors in individuality. For some reason they changed the sponge and the lower quality was instantly noticeable. But the best thing about Richies is that they are always all ears to customers. So when I mentioned the problem they were quick to correct it.
The weakness among Ritchie's baked goodies is its pies - apple pie in particular. It has too much flour in the mixture thus it just is not a pie. Fruit tarts are delightful melt in the mouth treats.
Various puff pastries are to die for. Occasionally the filling was not so fresh. But since I am a regular I know it is more exception than rule. So I'll not harp on it much. That being said a bit of quality control in the freshness department would help. I like the chicken hot dogs - I'd have liked it more had there been a bit less mayo and a lot more mustard. Also why not offer mustard sauce for hot dogs?
Plain bad (for my palette) are the pizzas. The bad is not in the toppings but in the bread. That puffed pre made bread just is not the way a pizza should be made at a place like Ritchies.
For my son's b'day we ordered two cakes from Ritchies. Cakes were not only a delight to eat but those were visual treats as well.
In the days of poor cakemanship by Baker's baskets and Monginis, artisan bakeries like Ritchies is a delight to go back to. The burb certificate that says 'innovation' is totally appropriate. Today afternoon when I stopped by they had three new items on the shelf - two pies, and a cup cake with a coconut filling.
Good to Bad to Worse
Well, I'd promised a follow-up review and here's one! I guess the title pretty much explains it. My experience has gone from good to bad to worse. Of late the food has been just simply pathetic. Sandwiches, puffs and croissants with smelly, rotten chicken and ever reducing in size, tiny pastries with coarse sponge cake.
A plaque from burrp mounted above their counter talks about them being innovative. Well, their innovation is defintely evident in the manner in which they pass off rotten stuff as fresh, just-out-of-the-oven to their customers!
As for me, I'd rather change the name to Rottie's Cake Shop! ::) Me not going back there again. Ciao Rottie...
Good stuff but quality is degrading!
I have been a regular at Richie's ever since it opened up. The quality has generally been good with the odd bad experience over the last couple of years. The pastries and desserts are the best of the lot.
However, of late (in the last month or so), the quality has unfortunately been degrading quite fast. Some examples:
1. The size of the pastries has been reduced! Also, the icing layer is a lot thinner thus making the eating exprience a lot thinner as well!
2. The cheese pattice filling is only present at the ends and the center is pretty much hollow! You can only figure that out after you eat it!
3. The chicken bun, which is a recent introduction, was great the initial couple of times. But now they have changed the filling and the size has also reduced!
I am hoping these are temporary hiccups and I am sincerely expecting the quality will improve in the coming days. I will definitely post a follow-up review! :)
On a positive note, the tiramisu which is another recent introduction is just awesome! :))
amazing fruit tart!
Am a regular at Richies and have been for more than a year.We relish almost all the goodies on display there. But the fruit tart i had today tops the list- creamy custard topped with a slice each of fresh crunchy strawberry, grape, pineapple n kiwi...with butterscotch(i think?) crunchies scattered all around, it was a real treat!Lookin forward to more of the same. An can we have some pies n quiches on the menu soooon, please?!

Yummy smelling with good vareity of baked goods
I was waiting for my better half and decided to get a snack. Richie's was the closest I could get to a sit-and-enjoy eatery in the Bavdhan area.
I had a Veg Pizza (Rs. 20) which was good, could have been better though..
Tha ambience and the aromas kept me glued to my seat, increasing my hunger by leaps and bounds even though I didn't want to eat anything else.
Perforce I ordered cold coffee, which turned out to be a let down. It was priced at Rs. 40, and was only about 3/4ths of a normal glass in volume. Taste was no great either.. seemed like watery cold coffee!
The proprietor should take note and do the following:
1) Reduce the price. I wouldn't want to pay 40 Rs. for a cold coffee in a place where everything else is so reasonably priced.
2) Improve the quality he can provide, for say 25 or 30 Rs.
This is limited to the in house drinks. Food is (and promises) to be yummy! :)

Thank you for patronizing Richies.
I shall take note of your suggestions and try and implement them in the future.
I wish you had tried our Pastries and other confectionery goodies as well 'coz that's our forte. The pizzas and drinks are only ancillary items in our shop.
More-over Cold Coffee must've tasted a bit diluted due to the crushed ice that starts melting over a period of time.

Thank you for responding. I did know that coffee and pizzas are ancillary. But I believe that if you are in a business, every aspect should be well run.. ancillary or not.. :) Infact since your pastries are amazing, you need to work harder to amaze me with your cold coffee than your pastry!
Also, no, the cold coffee was drab, plain and simple. I finished it within a minute of getting it in hand.. hence it was not due to the ice melting :)
