Had a Very Bad Experience..Will Never Visit again

I and my Husband went to this place for dinner but we had a very bad experience. The food was moderate and there was not much variety. It happened that we went on a bike as we had to go to another crowded place. This place does not have a parking for 2 wheelers. The security guard told us to park our bike outside the building premises where there is one so called parking made for 2 wheelers. After we had our dinner, when we went to get our bike we found that the fuel tube was cut off and someone had stolen the petrol. When we confronted the security guard of the building where Sigree is located, he said that these things happen usually there and we should have asked if the parking has a security guard..We had never imagined that this incident would happen, so how can we ask him if there is security guard for the parking. We had to drag our bike till the nearest petrol pump. This incident ruined our weekend evening and we were extremely taken aback by this irresponsible behaviour. If Sigree is charging so much money (1527 Rs for 2 people) at least should provide a proper parking space..It is not that people coming on two wheelers pay less than people coming in cars. I would never go to this place again.

I wouldn't really recommend Sigree for large group

I have, on earlier occasions, been to Sigree. I have to say that the restaurant has slipped a bit. It could be a good place for a small group (~4), but anything that is a large group is a number of covers that they don't have competent staff to handle.

The weekday lunch is a bit of a jostling crowd at the buffet table and, the spread is not so spectacular. Just so. A group of us (18, to be exact) were at this place on the 27th. And, it wasn't a really enjoyable experience. There are certain basic bits that a restaurant needs to have down as a routine. An example, glasses of water at the table. It took 15 minutes and asking twice before glasses were filled up. Then, it is the duty of the table staff to ensure that there is a complete set of cutlery - sadly, that was lacking. It is also expected that the staff would take care to serve the soups, appetizers and food as they are ready. Instead, the food was left at the counter and, after inordinate delay was served (for those who chose to order off the menu).

The naan(s) served were cold. The Methi Malai Murg was probably the one dish which would pass muster. The Kakori Kebabs were served singed and, it would have been a terribly burnt after-taste if one was to eat them.

However, what I found most annoying and, quirky was the insistence of the on-floor manager to know how the food was, right between meals. Even after pointing out that a feedback form or, an after-meal discussion would be appreciated, it was very hard to convince him to let us be. I appreciate the need to receive feedback, but interrupting a meal that is already going south is something that is well out of the ordinary.

I wouldn't really recommend Sigree for large groups. Especially on weekdays.

A consistantly special dining experience

A flagship restaurant of teh Speciality Group that are behind the restaurant brands of Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta and Machaan, Sigree serves the best kebabs and noth indian and frontier cuisine that one can consistantly find anywhere in India. Sigree Pune is no different, and consistantly backed up by their stupendous and attentive service. We've been there on a couple of important family occassions and have been never disappointed (except for the long weekend waiting period, in case you didnt book earlier). Prices are high, and so a dinner for two would cost between 2000-2200 easily. But this is fine dining at its best. Ask the waiters if you want a variation in their reciper to suit your palette and they'll be happy to provide a solution. The slight stench from the adjoining river can be a bit of a quib dampener on a muggy evening, in such case, choose to sit inside in the spacious AC dining area. Great for taking office colleagues, business contact, families, with children and a romantic dinner (be sure to tell the Captain if its your Anniversary, aor your Birthday; and they'll whip a complimentary surpise for you). Awesome!

Mixed reactions

The weekend lunch buffet was like a roller coaster ride. It started with some great starters, though the service was intermittent. The food doesn't keep flowing, like it should. People don't want breaks between the two starters. The main course, like most of the buffets, was average with very limited variety in rotis. The desserts was the biggest disappointment. Generally, desserts are the stars that decide the experience of a buffet and this buffet with a very limited number and poor choice of desserts was the downfall.

Worst Buffet..!!!

Had heard lot good about the restaurant, but our experience was totally opposite..We had buffet here...First of all about ambiance, the lights in the restaurant are not appropriate to recognize what food we are eating. Then there is no enough place to walk properly...Its much congested and in between there are bamboos..Now about food. Food was average but not at all worth 800/- Service was very bad...!!!

Utterly Disappointing

Visited Sigree Pune yesterday for dinner and was utterly disappointed with the ambience and also the service proivided by the staff there. There were mosquitoes biting us throughout this ordeal. When we requested for ligting a mosquito repellant repeatedly staff replied in affirmative but the repellant never came to our table. The staff seemed to be overworked and were very rude when we complained about service. The food though was good but we were not able to enjoy at all as the environment was not at conducive for having a enjoyable dinner with family. I am utterly disappointed …Not worth the money you pay for the food and the ambience...

Faced with biggest embarrassment in life

I stay in Mumbai. I went to Pune Sigree for first date with my would be wife. And guess what happened ??? The food was not good. Secondly the biggest embarrassment I faced was when I gave my debit card for making the payment the guy from restaurant came saying that its not working....that too in front of my first date.....so I had to leave my date alone on the table and go inside their kitchen to tackle the issue. Where the Captain or Manager Mr Amol suggested that he will assist one of his guys so that I can pay cash. I mean why ??? And above it the this guy Amol and one Mr Panda accepted that their machine is at fault. I was disdainfully amazed that this has happened earlier and they agreed that they haven't rectified yet. I had to cancel my further cancel my plans pay them the cash and drop my date off as we had end up giving up the valuable time me standing in kitchen and she languishing on table alone......Speciality restaurant it is....people I would suggest that dont ever try or go to this restaurant...funniest thing this people suggested when I said that what impression it would create on my date. they said Sir aap number de do hum madam ko call kar ke bol denge galti aap ki nahi thhi... End result: My date is not talking to me as usual.....So a single tip never go here if unless you want to face embarrassment.....

Not up to expectation

I visited sigree, last week end for a dinner and was not happy with the quality and taste of food. I ordered a fresh lime soda and I was served with bitter lime soda with no sense of taste in it. Food was also pretty ordinary and was not worth what they charged.Serving staff were courteous and pretty quick. overall management need to focus on quality and taste of food!!

Sub-Standard Food, but Hospitable Service

Date of Visit - 8/1/12

After been invited by a friend for the birthday treat, i was quite excited. At the first look, place looked great with impressive ambience and decor, but, that excitement was shortlived which disappeared with the arrival of stale starters. Paneer was stale, mushroom was not properly cooked and the quantity was way below expectations. Even the main course wasn't appealing, with their so-called dal, turning out to be a disaster. I don't know what they added in it which badly affected my throat, and the rest of the food was just average. Nothing special or good enough to talk about.

Staff was very courteous and hospitable, was more than happy to help and serve us. Even sang the birthday wishes and cheered for my friend whose bday it was. It was a great and sweet gesture. The 2 Stars are for them only.

Consistent experience...

Whenever am in Pune, the only place that I dine in is, Sigree! The sumputous delicacies coupled with the warm hospitality of the staff is league apart. You deserve to be in the top rung. Dal Sigree served in this restaurant is at par with the ITC Dal Bukhara, which is my personal favourite.

The standards of service maintained are global and the quality of food needs no introduction. Please convey my vote of Thanks to the Chef and the ever smiling, courteous and well managed staff. I would always recommend this fine dinning restaurant as its a Home-Away-From-Home!!!

Cheers!

Consistently very bad

Couple of years back i had visited your restaurant and the food was very disappointing and tasteless.......thought u guys would have improved..but to my surprise the quality of the food, taste everything was just so pathetic and most importantly havent the management trained their waiters as to how to behave with customers, the waiters are rude, careless, apsalutely no basic manners of serving the food..we had to ask 101 times the waiter to get the food and serve us properly and also finally had to cancel some of the things in the order given,And look at the prices that you have in your menu.not a single penny worth paying as the food.from starters to main course..everything is just pathetic and disappointing.....the starters were very very sad....And you guys have a open kitchen out there which is useless if the food is so very tasteless and bad..If this goes on definitely you will loose all your valuable customers out there....

Consistently Pathetic

I visited Sigree, way back in 2007 and I visited this restaurant again yesterday (8-Jan-2012), one thing I must appreciate about this restaurant, they are consistent in their performance, CONSISTENTLY PATHETIC. After my first visit in 2007, I decided not to visit ever again this restuarant, and I never did. But yesterday I thought of taking another chance, thinking they would have changed and improved, but they have maintained their reputation and it was equally pathetic again. Food is average, nothing to die for, but what matters most is the service. Mannerless and forgetful staff. Seems like the waiters have not been trained how to talk or how to serve. Starters are served first and the soup arrives much later after the starters are over. Another starter arrives after the soup is over. Papad doesn't even arrive even after reminders. FInally we had to cancel the masala papad order. But the forgetful staff forgot to remove it from the billing. Good that we noticed the bill else they were never bothered about it. A high chair was asked for the baby, the waiter responded saying that he'll get it in 2 minutes..am still wondering if those 2 minutes are over in his watch or not. He never returned back to me with the high chair. Finally the finger bowl. These guys seem to have forgot to boil the water. Someone please tell them that water should be warm or a bit hotter than warm when served in the finger bowl. The bottomline is Sigree is a black spot on Speciality Group.

Average Experience

I went for a team bonding dinner. We sat in the barbeque/buffet area.

Good Part: Ambience was very good, music was with the mood. As it was Christmas, the restaurant was decorated well. Food was well heated and deserts were good. Sigree Puch and champagne was good. Service was good and attentive to some extent.

Bad Part: Food was below average and tasteless. LED candles were placed and picked anytime. Waiter had a plate in his hand, when he was picking my plate, he dropped the used spoon on my shirt, didn't even say sorry or cleaned the dropped food just picked up my plate and walked off. Seats uncomfortable.

Unless the food taste is improved I don't plan to visit the place again.

Not upto expectations!

Firstly the 'Landmark' says opposite Mainland China whereas it is beside it!

Went to Sigree for lunch with my family. To begin with, the attendant at the front desk looked like she had just woken up from bed!

The seating is slightly uncomfortable and definitely needs to be redone as the tapestry has literally faded and is screaming to be torn. The attendants to the table just seemed to be bothered about getting their job done rather than sound welcoming or least of all, enthusiastic.

The saving grace was a decent menu with fairly good preparations. The portions of the meal were fair, 1 curry could serve 2 regular diners. Though the breads seemed to be a bit more chewy than they should be atleast they didn't taste half bad. The curries were packed with flavor which showed good cooking technique, the paneer didn't as fresh as expected.

The service definitely needs a makeover as the attendants seemed to be all over the place and yet nothing was coming as timely as it should be. They were refilling the water conveniently over our heads and we literally had to duck to save our heads from being banged by their elbows.

The overall experience wasn't something I would want to recollect and narrate to others but thankfully the food didn't spoil our Diwali lunch!

Should sue them for bad food.

I should sue them for the kind of food thry provided today. Cold Tomato soup, absolutely tasteless veg main courses. Only saving grace is their non-veg starters (Chicken Kabab) though served chilled. For a few peices of cut fruits and a bengali sweet, not at all worth it's price of Rs 607 all inclusive. Please go there if you want to fill your tummy full of non veg starters!

Go if you want to get robbed

As the name suggests, sigree is supposed to serve hot starters. The BBQ served was cold and tasteless. The sigree too was cold. There was no lighting in the corner. We could hardly see what we r eating. There was no soup in the menu. The ice-creme was melted and rotis were serverd after waiting for 15 minutes. the service was pathetic. Considering, the amount they charge, the food and service is pathetic.

Last but not least, don't drop your vehicle for valet parking as I was robbed off atleast 5 litres of petrol from my car.. Horrible experience.

Okayish

The ambience is pretty good, especially the seating area outside. The staff, however, is one of the most unenthusiastic lot I've seen. The starters served as part of the buffet are pretty decent. The one thing to REALLY avoid at Sigree are their cocktails. It just seems that the person who makes them has absolutely NO knowledge whatsoever of how alcohol should be mixed! Half the alcohol brands on their menu are usually never available. I find it highly pathetic that "Sorry sir, we do not have that" seems to be Sigree's standard response for 80% of the drinks ordered from their menu. Overall, I'd say Sigree is a one time try and that's about it.

Just about average

For all the fuss about being one of the premier Indian restaurants of the city, both the food and the service at Sigree is just about average. This is my 3rd visit to the restaurant and I'm not impressed.

The service lacks efficiency and warmth. Last time I was here, the service was beyond pathetic. Today, it wasn't as bad, but there is still no enthusiasm in the server's demeanor, no smile on anyone's faces and no effort is made to go the extra mile for the guest.

The food is also nothing spectacular. The Dal Sigree is pretty good. But the Malai Kofta is absolutely without flavour. The gravy is...for lack of a better word...blah...and the koftas have a unnecessarily thick outer shell and a stuffing of plain paneer and raisins, without any taste or character. Even a simple dessert like malpua and rabdi, which is a so-called house specialty was a let down. The malpuas were clearly not fresh, just microved and soggy.

After tonight's experience, the next time I get a craving for some good north Indian khanna, I'm going to look for other options.

Staff unable to understand local language

I had made a reservation for dinner on 19th evening, and then called up to cancel it. I was conversing in Marathi (this is PUNE), and the person at the other end kept on harping that he does not understand Marathi. It surprised me since he made no attempt to even transfer my call to someone who does. Is this what they call "hospitality"? I consider it rudeness, and am offended by the behavior - this is Pune, and Marathi is the language, and I expect every business to know Marathi. In order to succeed it is imperative to know the local language.

I hope Sigree trains their staff to understand Marathi (in their Pune hotel). Not everyone knows Hindi, or English. I will weigh my options before I decide to visit Sigree again for sure.

An evening meal at Sigree

First up there's a few things that need to be updated against the entry for this place - it isn't really 'moderate' in terms of price and, the average meal for two is most likely a buffet price and not the one if you opt to pick and choose.

Having said that, this is a nice place to share a small dinner. The place inside is well-lit, spacious and, has tables adequately placed to prevent the conversation noise (which is the bane of nearly every restaurant at Pune). We were there a bit early, I think, at 2000 hours and, there wasn't much of a crowd. But perhaps that was a function of the weekday. Weekends, I am told, are a rush of folks and a great bit of chatter.

We started off with ordering a glass of Lassi (sweet) and Masala Chaas. The Lassi was full-bodied and served quickly. I wish they served it in a wide mouthed glass rather than the tall ones which are used - makes for an uneasy lassi moustache ! The starters were Lucknow ki Galouti Kebab. These come 6 to a plate and, are prepared in a really excellent manner. The meat is full and yet succulent, the kebabs have that hint of fragrance and, they truly do end up melting in your mouth. Be warned though - you wouldn't really realize this but it seems to be really filling. Order your main course with care !

The main course had Chooza Kalimirch, Hingwala Kofta, Multani Paratha and Peas Pulao. The first is a chicken dish that is recommended. Goes well with the paratha and the gravy isn't a heavy handed presentation. I found the Kofta to have a bit of overdone-ness with the Hing/Asafoetida but I've been told that it is what it is like. The Peas Pulao is a standard dish and although there's always a chance of messing it up, this time there was no mistake. The portions are nice and there's a slim chance that two folks would feel the need to order more portions.

The rounding off was with dessert - Nolen Gurer IceCream (recommended but not for Bengalis) and, GulabJamun (which was served hot and soft in the syrup).

I didn't glance at the wine list but the pint of Sula produce(s) that was being advertised on the table puts the price a bit above expected. There's parking available and perhaps calling in to reserve a table is a better idea. The service is unobtrusive, polite and not in-your-face please-provide-feedback-on-food kind. The fun bit was that they kept asking whether it was a special occasion for which we selected Sigree. With all that curiosity, and given that it was, I half expected them to pull out a treat. That, however, didn't happen :) No harm done though.

Once upon a time Sigree was the "go-to" place for authentic high quality North Indian food. However, their quality seems to have deteriorated drastically in the past few months. Guess Speciality Restaurants is more worried about its other brands.

Excellent!

First things first , Sigree is not opposite Mainland China , as mentioned in the address, but in the same lane as Mainland China.
The place is divided into an outside area for buffets and the inside restaurant for a -la-carte .It has a very pleasing ambiance if you are going out with your family. Couples wont not get much privacy. The area where they make the breads is open, I mean it is glass paneled so you can watch the chefs tossing the rotis and naan while you are waiting for the food.
Sigree has mainly Sula wines in its wine menu. We tried out Sula Blush Zinfandel, a rose colored wine, which was nice (anyway this was the first drink of my life, so I wont be able to compare it with anything else!) .
Going ahead with the menu, we ordered dishes for both vegetarians and carnivores. For starters we ordered a tandoori bhuna aloo and hariayli paneer tikka both were fabulous. the non veg starters were, tandoori bekti( the fish was fresh and superbly spiced) and murg malai kebab which was absolute melt- in- mouth. Next we ordered Hare tamatar ka murg, and chooza kaimirch, both the dishes were superb and were served in huge platters, so excellent quantity. The vegetarians of my family also ordered 2 dishes, the names of which i have forgotten( i was concentrating mainly on my chicken) but i remember tasting them and they were great too. For dessert we ordered apple jalebi with rabri. An interesting concept. The apple slices were dipped in jalebi batter, fried and served with rabri. Again the portions were great. There were some very interesting desserts on the menu like date palm jaggery ice cream , which i intend to try on my next visit.
Service was very good, servers polite and knowledgeable about the menu. Portions, surprisingly good. Food excellent, we ordered a lot of different dishes but each gravy had a very unique taste, unlike several restaurants were they just have 3 or 4 types of basic gravies. It is a bit expensive, a place to visit only when your father is footing the bill.
Finally, a wonderful restaurant after a long time.I'm definitely coming here again.

I went to Sigree again after a bad experience earlier. This time I took my company's top management there and actually requested the guys at the restaurant to make sure they don't make me regret it! We went for the buffet outside. The food was good and the service was definitely a lot better than earlier. Responsive, quick and polite, the staff was very attentive and I definitely appreciate it. I will definitely consider going there again. However, I hope the service at Sigree continues to be good without me or anyone else having to tell them in advance.

overrated and too expensive for the offering

visited this place as had heard quite good things about it, the indoor was packed so we sat outside. the ambiance was not that great, it was just the usual. we did order from the a la carte menu- i felt the food is too expensive for the variety and the taste they offer. i did not really find it to be authentic "indian". also the service is quite poor as well.

Poor Service

My wife and I had been told this was arguably the best restaurant in Pune for North Indian food and hence we went there for the first time for dinner with a couple of friends. We were not too keen on the buffet and ended up sitting indoors.
The food was alright but the service was really poor! It took the server 30 minutes to get the appetizers. Another 45 minutes to get the main course! A party of people at the next table came in behind us and were happily digging into their main course while were we twiddling our thumbs waiting for ours. We had to ask the server 3 times to request our food. The 3rd time he came back and said "Its ready and waiting inside sir". I almost flipped and replied in return...."if its ready and waiting inside, what is stopping you from getting it out to us"? "Are you waiting to serve me the food for breakfast the next day"?
I always start my tips @ 15% but this was the first restaurant in my entire life where I didn't give a single rupee as tip. I am sorry but I believe the staff has to earn their money just like the rest of us!
I am wary of recommending this place to anyone and am doubtful myself if i will go back again!

Not worth it

I usually avoid going here unless I'm defeated by a majority vote. First of all, it's not my kind of food. The seating is really uncomfortable. The starters are quite good, but that's not the reason I go to a restaurant. The main courses leave a lot to be desired, especially the non-vegetarian ones. The Dal Makhani (Black Dal) is quite good though.

Could be better

We were seated in the open area of Sigree.
Ambiance n seating arrangement was good.
Kebabs were excellent............but the buffet did not have much of a variety.........Sigree can definitely do with some more variety !!

When a buffet is laid out..........you gotta have VARIETY !

best for indian food

yesterday went with my friends.had a wonderful time. The garden area is excellent where the buffet is placed.having different types of kebabs on the charcoal and cool breeze along with the food makes that place an perfect destination for indian food lovers.
The staff were very courteous on the serving part to make our evening wonderful. The best part came when at the end someone came with a birthday cake and a bottle of champagne to celebrate my birthday. This made the evening wonderful and memorable one.
As per the pricing for buffet does match with their standard and quality. Will surely come again and recommend to others.
Thanks Sigree for making my evening wonderful.

BELOW average for vegetarians

I work across the street so many of my colleagues go to this place often, and I am often a reluctant tag along. And for good reason, you just CANNOT serve palak, aloo and gobi in a place like that. You expect them to do better than that when you look at the ambience and the fancy stuff. But when I went there the last time ( Yesterday - 27th Nov 2010 ) , the menu read like this - palak paneer ( bland ), aloo jira ( dry ) and veg makhanwala ( full of tasteless curry and assorted veggies ), Pulao and Dal. I have definitely had much much better food down the road at chutneys ( & thats a small joint ) compared to sigree at 1/4th the cost. Please improve the variety & quality of your food is the only advise i can give sigree.

One of the better joints

I've been here maybe 6 or 7 times total. And all experiences have been good. The food is good, the kebabs are fantastic, their biryani is some of the best. The starters are good. The buffet is good. Certainly worth a visit once in a while. And their active responses to all the reviews posted here is something other places should take note of. A customer is always happy when he knows his voice is being heard.

Just OK

Well i had heard a lot about Sigree and finally went der last monday . Food was just OK and service also was not up to the mark .I felt as if all food were cooked in same masala . To me every thing tasted the same . Needs improvment on quality and presentation of food .
When compared to BB Nation , BB Nation stands way up with the price of both being almost same .

Average

Have been to sigree twice. The first time went in a group of about 15 for its barbeque and buffet dinner. The barbeque was horribly serviced, the replacements were very slow. I had a much better experience at Babeque nation than at sigree. The buffet ran out of rice, desert, rotis very frequently leading to long queues.

The second time, sat inside. The service was pretty good, food was good, nothing exceptional. The desert - sizzling brownie was burnt by the time it arrived. Was promptly replaced. Loved it !

Expected better from Speciality Restaurants

This review relates to about 6/7 months back. Pune was rained in, but still took the effort to drive to Sigree - especially since we had heard so much about it. Also, being a patron of Mainland China, Oh Calcutta and Sweet Bengal, I was confident about the experience. In fact, I have been enjoying their food since the Only Fish days at the tiny place in Shivaji Park, Mumbai - where Sweet Bengal is now.

Alas - the kababs came in cold, and it was visible that roomali roti was not one of its strengths - in fact it appeared that a novice was doing them.

While I can understand that Saturdays can be hectic, am sure the management is professional enough to recognize when service standards fall.

No more Sigree for me - if I want that cuisine, I will go to Copper Chimney at Worli, Mumbai or Peshawari, ITC Grand Maratha.

Usual run of the mill food

We had gone to Sigree with high expectations after reading the reviews. It was quite a disappointment. The food was the usual spicy, oily food. The flavours were just the usual, which one would find in any normal Indian restaurant, nothing exceptional. The quantity of food served in Ala carte was very little. The Raita we ordered was fit to feed just one person. It is hard to imagine that Sigree is owned by the same chain that runs restaurants like Mainland China!!!!

Good value for money

I have been to sigree a couple of times and love both the inside and outside location.. The low seating, light music and the smell of kabas roasting make the experiance truly memorable.

In bigger groups of 4+, the evening buffet is the best, with a huge set of starters, dinks and a variety of dishes to pick for the main course.

And if you like a laid back cozy candle ligt dinner or then just a smal chit-o-chat over dinner, the inside siting is the best.

Averagely priced, its a good bet for the money..

GOOD FOOD

Though it is primarily Non-Veg it has an excellent choice in vegetarian food their Biryani's and Dal are always great and their cottage cheese dishes are excellent. Their drinks are pretty good and their food is great. Non-veg is mostly served outside so that isn't a problem.

Must Go

Wonder why the name of the restaurant is Sigree and not Sigdee. Good thing though that this has no impact on the taste of the food which is good. At INR 350 per head (including taxes), the buffet was value for money. There was decent variety in starters and main course, though there was no option in soup. The desert was the best part and the paisam was amazing. A soft drink is also included in the buffet.

We went there in afternoon, but looking at the place, it seemed like it would be great to come here for dinner as there is a beautiful river side view.

Good food but very small variety

I had first gone to Sigree with my family, all four of us. We reached there at about 8:30. When we reached there, the decor looked pretty good from the outside. We had reservations, so there was no delay when we reached. The waiter directed us to our seats and we sat, little knowing what was going to follow.

The custom at Sigree is, that they serve you almost cooked starters on skewers. There is a hole in the middle of your table, which is filled by a box that the waiter brings over. The box is filled with coal and lit, so that you can barbecue the rest of your starters at your table, by yourself. The funny thing was, that there was a huge fan right behind us, which meant that absolutely all of the heat given by the coals was blown away, leaving the starters neither fully cooked, nor heated.
We tried to explain this to the waiter.
First, he tried to convince us that that was not the case, at which point my father told the waiter in a no nonsense voice that he too made barbecues at home, and that these weren't the ideal conditions to do so.
Next, he told us that we could switch our tables if we wanted to, but we could not get the fan switched off. Since we had just been seated, we did not mind doing so. The waiter said that he would go and set up our new table, and disappeared for 5 minutes.
Then suddenly, the fan behind us was switched off and there was no more mention of us moving, other than a ,"The other tables are reserved."

Okay, so we were comfortably seated with no fan on us. The problem was that there still wasn't enough heat being generated by the coal. Maybe the quantity of coal was running down. We told the waiter this, and he removed the skewered starters from above the box, and took them away who knows where. A few minutes later, instead of the box being taken away, another waiter appeared and started placing skewers on the box, as if we had just arrived. We were shell shocked, and I could not contain myself; I started laughing in front of the guy. After explaining everything once again to the new guy, he took the box away, topped up the coal, brought it back, and served our starters.

By this point, we were pretty frustrated, so the starters better be good. They were, which went a long way in tempering our moods. The boneless chicken was spicy, but the others like like the paneer tikka, were fantastic. My mocktail, the Pina Colada was incredible too.

Next, we moved to the buffet. The tastes were good here too, but the buffet, sadly was very small. Just three non-veg dishes and three or four veg ones. Apart from that, there was salad, and desserts. The desserts were not exceptional, nor was the salad.

The place is also on the expensive side, which is funny, considering it's nothing great or different from any other grill place. In fact, I would strongly recommend going to Barbecue Nation instead of Sigree.

In any case, if I were to go to Sigree again, I would definitely opt out of the Barbecue Buffet. Maybe the a la carte served inside is slightly better.

Best Place to Impress your Girl Friend

It was one of the first restaurants I visited in Pune and, as I am still a frequent visitor to the restaurant when were I am Pune. Sigree gets its name from an iron vessel which is used to cook food over a charcoal fire. It arrived in Pune in 2006. The restaurant as being inspired by the dream to revive the lost art of subtle cooking in Indian cuisine with importance given to the purity and freshness of flavour rather than the rich, spicy cream and gravy mistaken as our cuisine today. While I think these claims are rather lofty (the food at Sigree is still very rich and creamy). On my visit to Sigree I ordered the raan for starter. It had been cooked to perfection – the meat just fell away from the bone. It was a tasty, if rather heavy, way to start the meal. The main course, I ordered bhindi and dal makhani with plain rice, roomali roti and pineapple raita. I being a fan of bhindi, I was pleased to discover that it was crispy and delicious. The dal makhani was tasty but very rich – this is not a place to come if you are on a diet! What to say about dessert anything that’s really rich and give taste to your taste buds I ordered malpua, rabid because I like eating dessert. The ambience at Sigree is something special. Even when you draw up at the restaurant and glance at its elegant sign, you know that you are in for a treat. The outside dining area is covered in white lights and looks on to the river. Inside, the colours are rich and vibrant – reds and oranges – with lots of dark wood and imaginative lighting. I liked about Sigree was that the waiters were very friendly and Service to good. Sigree is a great place to take someone you want to impress; but only if you get there early enough to avoid the rush. Make sure to book in advance.

In the evenings this place is very crowded, that afects their service in the BBQ section.

Will not opt for the BBQ buffet next time I vist there.

But the food quality is good, but a bit overpriced

Delicious n Affordable

I had the lunch buffett. The Rs. 450 price tag was worth every rupee. The kebabs were really well made - chicken kebabs should have been more tender but they were very tasty, the paneer kebabs were succulent and the bhetki kebabs were great as well. Gol Gappas were a letdown. The Mutton Biryani was simply brilliant, the saffron tinged flavour was divine. The desserts were disappointing - Malpua was at best average, the Mango Mousse was nothing special. One the whole, this place is a must visit for great Indian fare. Four stars from me.

Overpriced and Underserviced

I have been here for my birthday taking a party of 16 people and other than the price no one was awed by the menu. Has a very restricted setup and service is not at all appreciable.

will not plan to visit again...

Share:

Overhyped and Overpriced

While the food is good, it's not that good to warrant the really crazy prices.

A modest meal (dinner - a la carte) for 4 with 2 dishes, 1 daal and parathas/roties came to 1800 rs. This, according to me, is quite expensive as the food was good, but not scrumptilicious.

We have been here on many office parties, etc., and since I never paid the bill, didn't pay much attention to the price vs quality factor.

I would recommend it only for big occassions like anniversaries, etc, and that too when you have cash to spend :)

Share:

Flatters to deceive ...

I have been to this place three times in the recent past.
The first time I was here - was when I treated my friends to their buffet lunch on my birthday.

The lunch was brilliant! (to put it mildly)
It was one of the best buffets I have ever had and everybody loved the food. FYI, the lunch is an unlimited buffet and costs around 300 bucks inclusive of taxes - with a drink included (only beer in alcoholic drinks)

After this, we went here for a dinner party that I threw for my folk's 25th wedding anniversary. This was however, a la carte'. Though the food was decent, the service left something to be desired.

The waiter recommended all the wrong dishes and suggested wrong quantities too - which caused some stuff to be over ordered and some food ran out quickly. However, the overall experience was decent and not really bad.

The third time, I was invited by a friend for dinner.
This time, we went for the night barbecue buffet. I was excited because it really sounds tempting.
They have a sigree burning at each table and they serve starters - 80% cooked which you can barbecue yourself completely.
This is accompanied by an unlimited buffet and costs around 450 bucks inclusive of taxes - but without any drinks.

This however, did not end up as well as the lunch buffet.
The service at night was horrible and we had to wait a long time to get served. The barbecue, I felt, was over hyped.

The entire experience was gauche with us fumbling half the time and add to that the slow service.

Food again was mediocre at best.

Overall, the food is a lot better than most of the places around Pune - but the quality varies so much that I wonder whether I was lucky the first time I went for lunch.
I wouldn't recommend the dinner barbecue as I felt it was over hyped and painful.

The lunch buffet though is excellent and terrific value for money.

Not advised for pure veg

Sigree boasts of good food & I totally agree. Been there a couple of times now but from now on i will avoid it. The buffet is pretty good and salads are ok. The thing that stuck me was we were looking at their open (glassed) kitchen and we saw that the cooks who were putting chicken pieces on the barbecue sticks was now making roti's. The 2 ovens are used interchangeably for barbecue and making Rotis. It was shocking to see such a negligence in such a reputed restaurant.
Agreed that this might (or will) happen in many other restaurants that i have had food, but atleast not in front of my eyes.

So i wouldnt advice this place to other vegetarians

Well I had been here on my b'day with my family & again with my ofc colleagues from australia....Let me tell that both the times I had a unique experience be it the quality/taste of the food or hospitality of the staff..it was the best. They serve beautiful chutneys & achars with starters which cannot be found/tasted in any other restaurent in pune. The roasted urid papads in cone shape is their speciality. being a vegeterian I had limited menu to select but all of them were unique in their own way..the main course was awesome with mixed vegetables & rumali rotis....the veg pulav wasexcellent..the food is completely oil free & the combination of the spices is unique. A must place to visit for special ocassions.
