Went there on a weekday afternoon. All the micro brewries I have been to offer tasters. Here you are expected to pay. Setvice is not up to the mark. Yet all could have been forgiven if the beers were at least half way decent. Unfortunately they are not. I find the beers insipid. Lacking in character. Flatish without any body. For a place which is trying to push itself as a German beers kind of place, the beers are a joke.
You would be better off at Doollay instead. The beers there are better any day.
Food was ok though
Went here for a party with friends recently. Nice place. The ambiance is good. The place is divided into 2 sitting areas, one inside and outside, and you can also check out the brewery. The best time to go to TJ's is the happy hours where you get some 51% off before 7:30 pm, because after that it becomes a little heavy on the pockets. We went on a Karaoke nights, and had a hell lot of fun. Even though the place wasn't very crowded, we had fun!! The music is great, and the people are very welcoming!! You should definitely check out this place if in or around Amanora!
Third Visit And Not The Last For Sure!!!
This was our third visit here!!!! This time I took my mom along who is not really a big beer drinker, but none the less she was not disappointed!!!! As usual everything was excellent!!! We will definitely keep coming back and keep bringing more people to try out the place!!!! Looking forward to another visit and looking forward to a new mystery brew!!!
Second Time Around Equally Good
Our second visit to TJ's Brewworks yesterday, this time we took my brother in law and sister in law with us. We went at the prefect time; late afternoon, the weather was beautiful, therefore we decided to sit in the outdoor section at the bar counter. They do have a sofa seating right by the window, however it was already reserved. We had already had lunch therefore we just went there for beers. My wife and my sister in law were not drinking. They stuck to a red bull and a fresh lime soda sweet and salty, my brother in law and I decided to have a few drinks. They had a special offer going on (I think its till 7 pm). if you order for a 330 ml glass of beer you get the 500 ml glass at the price of the 330 ml one. My brother in law went in for the Devils Dark Beer which was wonderful and I went in for the Blonde Ale for my first glass and the Apple Cider (TJ's mystery brew) for my second glass.
Over all all three beers were excellent, they have a certain smoothness to them which makes them easily drinkable! Once again my advise to all readers, go there for the beers and the starters. The Amanora Mall has some excellent places on the same floor for a proper meal. Absolutely loved the place and were not disappointed the second time around, will definitely go back for more!!!
Finally A Good Micro Brewery!!!!
Absolutely love the place! The place is bustling with energy, the vibes are great, the place is packed and the prices are reasonable. A great place to go for a chilled glass of some excellent hand crafted micro brewed beer! This has to be my favorite micro brewery in Pune! The staff is fun and interactive and extremely knowledgeable about their product. The beers are brewed superbly! Other brewery's need to learn a lesson from them.
Go there for a pre-dinner drinks and starters because their food menu is okay, but do go there and sample their beers, they truly stand out amongst the crowd!!!
Potential Place Wasted Like Anything
This place has potential, but lacks consistency. I went there yesterday and ordered a beer stein. Beer appeared flat, you feel drunk after 3-4 round of drinks. Beers are not consistent when it comes to flavour.
We ordered Nachos and all we got were nachos from a packet with a bowl of salsa sauce. These guys should go to HRC or a decent place and have Nachos there.
There was no Vodka on Saturday night, imagine!!
Went here with a group of 5 friends for a Sunday Brunch. The buffet was good. I really liked the salad and all the options available for dressing. I made myself a nice crunchy salad. The tomato broth was yumm!! The herbed butter with the breadstick's was delicious! Being a non-vegetarian I had a couple of options in the main course of the buffet, but my veggie friends had no choice! So they were a bit disappointed. The desserts were well prepared! So overall the meal was quite good, but I would have preferred more variety in the buffet, plus its slightly over-priced. Haven't tried their beers, so can't say nothing about the brewery.
Horrible Experience & Cheated by Arrogant Staff
If there was a negative rating, I would've given it to TJ's. Never have I come across such terrible arrogant waiters! Not just the waiters, even the manager was equally if not more rude. This place cheats people - they trick you with a higher charged item even if you ordered a lower charged item - do check your bill thoroughly before you pay.
When we asked the arrogant waiter why he charged higher for the beer, he says the beer you ordered was not available and therefore we served you the more expensive beer & charged you for that - hello, who's supposed to ask the customer that???
And never think of ordering Nachos here - they drip in oil, half fried, w/o any salsa - ever tried masala papad in a typical restaurant? This is nothing but fried nasal papad for 250 bucks! All in all, will never visit this place --- bad choice. Should've read up reviews of this place before visiting.
Definitely not visiting such a pathetic place again.
This place is poor with service ,food & management
I went to this place with my friends on a sunday for lunch...The ambiance is not like the streets of Asia though they have tried a lot to make it look like one..tables are too close to each other , service is horrible , we almost waited for food to arrive for 40 mins . I had experienced and noticed one thing that the management of this restaurants give more importance to FIRANGI PPL and for Indians they do not even. Disappointing exp at Tj's only good thing was beer..nice but who cares man if you have attitude keep with u .. , i will say big NO to this place if you are Indian their are too many choices you will get in nearby.
Wont Visit again
Food 1/5 (Served Cold, not great in taste)
Drinks 2/5 (May be just me but tried the samples and did not like them, accompanying friend is of similar opinion)
Value for Money 1/5
I am still not able to figure out why I went there
Staff is rude, place has been decorated well but not an amicable environment to be in,
Management seemed unprofessional
Wrong Billing of Taxes
Location : Amanora Town
While billing they use to charge Service Tax on Total Bill and not service charge , but as per Law , Service tax should be charged on Service Charge.
Some people argue that , amount is comparatively small but still they are not allowed to take that extra money .Also I have seen many restaurants follow the same practice
So beware and please check your bill specially for Service Tax/Service Charge
Went to TJ's a week after some friends gave it glowing recommendations, and they were more than happy to tag along.
The place has a nice vibe, excellent beer guzzling environment both indoors and outdoors.
I started with their samplers cause I was trying them for the 1st time and they were disappointing. Not chilled enough, they tasted watered down, nothing stood out and unfortunately the dark beer tasted nothing like a dark beer, it had only the colour but no taste, I expect dark beers to have a body and some character. None of the beers served thereafter were chilled enough!
The staff was on the cusp , they were hardly interested in helping out, very matter of fact .
The food was cold, we had to send back the wings, we had to complain about the beef for which the chef came out and apologised (apparently chefs have different shifts and the quality of food you get served depends on your dumb luck and the talents of the chef cooking) and then followed the "apology" with squid rings and a mushroom soup that were COLD! I Kid you not.
For starters and whatever beer we had, we paid 3 grand, and nothing was memorable. Except that 2 out of the 4 people got sick!!!
My friends were horrified that it could be so bad so quick, in a week to be precise........
Lost the Loyal Customers! Be cautious!
TJ's ... !!! We were the regular weekend customer at this bar. Loved the Pasta here ... But, no more now ... The manager told the Chef got changed and the taste really sucks now ... Beer feels good, quite less alcoholic ... You will feel drunk only after spending on some 3 to 4 drinks ... DJ is average, he just plays his own playlis (On 'Rock Day' we requested him to play Pink Floyd, he stated "Sorry Sir, we only play Popular music!!! LoLzzz)
Now, let's turn our opinion on CEO. The CEO and owner of this Pub is seriously the worst CEO I ever saw. In evening, when one enters the Pub, The CEO Honorable T.J. VenkateshwaranJi will be seen gulping lot of drinks and looking at the crowd and the babes even around ... At night, when you about to leave the place, he will just hit you with a strong Pat on our back! Reason - He will say, you were staring at my daughter in a Pub and passing comments! In real, we were enjoying our drinks and about to leave and her daughter may be just passed away, we didn't even noticed, she wasn't Megan Fox! Seriously, this guy doesnt know how to respect the customer. He himself was drunk and staring at girls and accusing customers for looking at girls (Me / Us) ... !!!
I am switching to my favorite bar now Machcheter United Cafe' Bar! That is really awesome as compared to this TJ's which doesn't even know how to respect the customer. They lost the loyal customers!
Guys, serioulsy go and have fun in ManU Pub which has great music, food and drinks! I am giving an honest review.
No more beers after 11pm on Sat!
We went there to have a beer after dinner on Saturday night. The music was too loud inside, so we went to the terrace, which is tastefully decorated. But the place was packed and they don't have a decent barr (it's more like a place where the waiters pick up the beers for the clients that are seated) so we were forced to be standing up in the middle of the corridors dodging the waiters. The beers were pretty bland and boring, no character, which is what you expect from a non-comercial beer, but more expensive than those. But the worse part was yet to arrive: at 11:10pm, just when we were about to order the second round, the waiter informed us that they closed the tabs 10 minuts ago and without any warning. They had nothing else to drink! And they call it a microbrewery...
b! Review TJs Brew Works @ Hadapsar
Head to Punes latest microbrewery, TJs Brew Works at Amanora Town Centre and prep your taste buds for a real treat. The decor is minimalistic and chic with a generous use of wood. The bar justifiably takes centre-stage. There are two seating sections, indoor and al-fresco. The DJ belts out retro rock tunes inside while the Al fresco seating is just right for those looking to have a quiet time sipping their brew. Fun beer-related frames adorn the wall to enforce the brewery feel and big screens showing live matches are going to please the sports bar fan.
The kitchen, managed by WTF! a Mumbai based-hospitality group, covers mostly bar-food like onion rings, beer-battered sea-food, kebabs, burgers and Chinese starters. We tried the Korean Beef (Rs 220) thinly sliced beef tossed with red chillies and spices served on a bed of crunchy ice-berg lettuce and TJs kebab (Rs 180) succulent chunks of chicken marinated with yogurt, cream and spices and grilled in the tandoor. The beef was superbly marinated and its robust spicy flavour went rather well with the chilled beer.
Food doesnt play second-fiddle here with extremely reasonable pricing and quantity. They dont serve desserts just yet, but I was informed by the manager that they stock Chocolate brownies, which are currently off the menu, for patrons with a sweet tooth. They also have a Sunday Brunch which includes cold cuts, fresh salads, mains, desserts and of course beer!
This is a microbrewery, so, the main focus is on beer. All the beers here are made using the yeast collected at the bottom layer of the fermentation tank and so, by definition, are lagers. This may come as a disappointment to the beer connoisseur who prefers the stronger and more robust ales. T J Venketeshwaran, the man behind this enterprise, believes that Indians prefers easy-drinking beers; and with his decade or so of experience at SAB Miller, were inclined to take his work for it. The place is jam-packed at by eight thirty on Friday night with customers lining up to get their dose of fresh chilled brew.
We took our seat at the bar and started on our beer sampler of their Premium, Zen Weiss and Devils Dark brews (Rs 125) for 330 ml. The Premium is a full-bodied beer made with imported Czech hops, Zen Weiss is made with malted wheat with hints of coriander and the Devils Dark, as the name suggests, is the dark beer with a slight smokey flavour and an almost chocolate-like aftertaste. We will easily pick the Devils Dark as our favourite but would suggest you try all of them yourself to find one you like.
Beers is served in 330 ml and 500 ml glasses. They also have beer dispensers scattered all over the restaurant from where you can re-fill your glasses simply by placing a pre-loaded card next to the machine, though we wish these werent so spread out.
It makes it difficult to locate your favourite beer, especially after youre a few glasses down. If we were to offer a suggestion, wed propose they place all dispensers in one area with illuminated signage that helps you spot the beer youre after easily.
They have a weekend license which allows them to serve spirits on the weekends. As is seen with a number of watering holes, patience levels wane after a few drinks and it only gets worse. So the service staff has got to be on top of their game at all times. The service here is quick and efficient and this is one place thats thankfully well-staffed. This is a great place to grab a few drinks even during the week.
Must Try: Devils Dark
Average meal for two: Rs 1000 excluding taxes with a 330 ml beer.
beautiful place....Horrible management
been there 3 times and have always ended coming back in a foul mood(have decided never to go back)...The place is gorgeous... thats where all the good points end.. The owner to start with is the most rude person and customer service is on the bottom of his hospitality list. The beers are expensive and very mild. The staff is a copy of the owner.... overall a BAD CHOICE for a precious weekend..
Pathetic Service. Mild beers
To start off with, the owner is VERY rude! Of course, that is if you're an Indian citizen. If you have white skin, then be prepared for a bend over session by him. Beers are mild, food is okay and the service is ABSOLUTELY pathetic. And be prepared for blank stares when you ask the waiters a question about the beer. All in all, a place which is a farce in the name of hospitality.
Good place for a fun evening
Wonderful place. We went for a party with the bank's staff including guests from UK. We all loved the ambience, the beer quality and the starters were fantastic. The only let down was that they did not have hard drinks on the Monday, else we could have had more choice. The staff was very courteous and they gave us a comfortable seating arrangement.
Nice Beer Worst Management
Tjs brew has some wonderful option for freshly brewed beer but the worst part is the management.
they have some arrogant staff members they will try to trick you with the bill couple times and you might end up paying more than you have consumed.
If you are going in there then please remember to check your bill before paying it.
I have a membership card for TJs but alas i will never like to visit again.
TJ's on a Sunday afternoon
Even though TJ's is a part of Amonara where 1000's flock together, its still isolated on the 2nd floor with the mall which really helps you to a quite and enriching experience.
1) Good options of brew for those who like MILD beer
2) Open & airy
3) Great outdoor seating and get up, really helps you relax
1) NO FOOD options on Sunday afternoon..I mean NONE...So unless you want to only drink beer, DONT GO THERE
2) Beer is extremely mild, the strongest ne is Devils dark which is pretty good , no doubt but need more options
3) No one to show you a seat and really poor service-Find your own way concept probably
4) Have heard(no experience) pretty poor rumors that the owner is not interested in serving Puneites but select European clientele hence is not open to any feedback
5) Non utilization of the distellery and knowledge sharing thru short tours which Im sure all will appreciate.
Well, They will get a lot of first time visitors like you & me but thats it.
Decent place. EXTREMELY rude owner.
We thought we'd give this place a dekko since we were on the lookout for places which serve dark beer or stout. The place is quite spacious with decent outdoor sitting. We chose a place inside since we'd decided to have our beers at 4 pm :P
They brought us three small glasses with beer samples - the premium, the zein weiss and the devil's dark brew. We went with the premium and the devil's dark. Now, the beers are EXTREMELY mild and this is where the problem started.
We asked the owner, Mr.Venkateshwaran, the reason for the beers being SO mild. For starters, the dude is an extremely condescending man, especially if you are an Indian. We saw him trying to be extremely polite with foreigners and yet spoke with a condescending tone when it came to fellow Indians. Anyway, Mr. Venkateshwaran comes up with the excuse that Indians are not ready for the bitter variety and thus the mildness. "We have made our beers in such a way so as to suit the Indian palette." Really? A beer drinking country which thrives on Kingfisher, Fosters (and Haywards,on many an occasion) is going to be "introduced" to the concept of a beer by this man? Hilarious! He also hinted to us that he was interested in his German clientele more than us Indian folks. Which is really not surprising for Pune - a city, like many other Indian cities, will ignore its own citizens just to cater to a few white skinned blokes.
When questioned about this attitude, Mr. Venkateshwaran rudely cut the conversation short by saying, "Yeah.. okay. I will have to excuse myself", and disappearing out of sight. DEFINITELY not expected from the owner of a place looking to serve a multi-cultural clientele!
That being said, the Korean Beef dish was REALLY nice. The waiters are pretty okay. Not rude .... YET. I've noticed how the quality of waiters decreases as the first batch moves on and new ones fill in their places. Hopefully, that will not be there case here.
Mr. Venkateshwaran, owning a business does not grant you the license to be snobbish OR rude with your Indian customers. Your beers ARE mild whether you like it or not. It is almost akin to drinking water mixed with "beer flavours".
